Toshiba Develops 21-inch Autostereoscopic

Toshiba Mobile Display Co., Ltd. has developed a 21-inch autostereoscopic high-definition display for use in 3D monitors that enables the user to enjoy 3D images without the need for special glasses.

To date most 3D products have used special glasses to separate a picture into two images: one for the left eye and the other for the right eye. But the market has strongly desired a more versatile and glasses-free approach that could be used anywhere. This new product employs an integral imaging system (a "light field" display) to reproduce a real object as a 3D image that can be viewed without glasses over a wide range of viewing angles. Therefore, the display is suitable for 3D monitors used for advertisements and entertainment appliances.

Specifications

  • 3-D method: Integral imaging system with 9-parallax design
  • Screen size (diagonal): 21-inch/53.3 cm
  • Number of 3D pixels: 1,280 (horizontal) x 800 (vertical) / WXGA
  • 3D viewing zone (typical): ±15 degrees (horizontal)
  • Surface intensity (typical): 480 cd/m2

Earth View Now Available in Google Maps

Google Maps features Earth view, Google announced today.

Google Maps users can now swoop down from space to explore their favorite parts of the planet in 3D. Earth view offers a three-dimensional perspective which lets users experience mountains in detail, 3D buildings, and first-person dives beneath the ocean.

Using Earth view in Google Maps is similar to using Google Earth. Users can

- fly to the location of their choice - zoom, pan and tilt using the navigation tools on the left side of the screen
- explore 3D buildings and terrain
- search for businesses and get directions

To access Earth view, users simply click the new "Earth" button in Google Maps. If they do not yet have the Google Earth Plugin downloaded, they will be prompted to do so the first time they click the button.

Because Earth view is built right into Google Maps, users can toggle between Map, Satellite, and Earth views, making it simple to switch between a cartographic view, a top-down satellite view, or a 3D perspective using Earth view.

Earth view uses the same technology that powers the Google Earth desktop application. Google built the new feature on the Google Earth API and browser plugin
, tools that make it easy for web developers to include Google Earth in their own web sites.

New ASUS ROG Crosshair IV Formula Motherboard to Support Dual Channel DDR3 2000MHz on AMD Platforms

The brand new Crosshair IV Formula from ASUS Republic of Gamers, or ROG, ups the ante for everyone with an interest in gaming.

Under the eye-catching design, the Crosshair IV Formula boasts ROG Connect for instant tweaking and monitoring of gaming rigs, user-friendly overclocking interface Turbo Key II and proprietary ASUS technologies Core Unlocker and GameFirst.

The Crosshair IV Formula deploys the latest chipset architecture from AMD. ROG Connect, a built-in overclocking engine, maximizes benchmark scores by tuning and monitoring from a remote PC via USB, like a notebook. This way users can overclock while benchmarking, so all resources remain available to better performance. ROG Connect also serves as a monitoring tool?gearheads can obtain readings to see the effects mods such as overvolting have on their system.

ASUS and Republic of Gamers also announced Core Unlocker. It's well known many CPUs come with multiple cores deactivated during fabrication, and Core Unlocker brings those back to life. Users simply have to press one button on the board and the AMD CPU placed in the socket goes through a physical scan in search of dormant cores. Dual core CPUs can become triple or quad in minutes, with obvious computing horsepower benefits.

The Crosshair IV Formula also comes with the latest version of Turbo Key II. Turbo Key II runs extensive overclocking automatically, detecting hardware tolerances and testing them to ensure stability. Users need to do is press the O.C button on the board and let the technology take it from there.

Multiplayer has become the norm, and gamers demand smooth connections to deliver uninterrupted action. The reality, however, is that many still don't enjoy optimized broadband, which is why ASUS has conjured GameFirst. This smart solution works with the board's networking pipeline to prioritize bandwidth, eliminate lag and lower latency.

Storage comes in the form of six SATA 6GB/s and three SATA 3GB/s. Also, the Crosshair IV Formula includes two USB 3.0 ports, which are much faster than USB 2.0 in every way. There's also HD audio from integrated SupremeFX X-Fi, fully EAX 4.0 compliant.

Adobe Quits Development Of Flash-to-iPhone App

Adobe will stop the development of a Flash-to-iPhone software tool introduced with its Creative Suite 5 last week.

The company says that plans to concentrate on developing for Google's Android mobile operating system, according to a blog post by Mike Chambers, Flash platform product manager for Adobe.

A little over a week ago Apple released a new draft of their iPhone developer program license which contained the following clause:

Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).

"Essentially, this has the effect of restricting applications built with a number of technologies, including Unity, Titanium, MonoTouch, and Flash CS5," Adobe's Mike Chambers wrote at its blog. "While it appears that Apple may selectively enforce the terms, it is our belief that Apple will enforce those terms as they apply to content created with Flash CS5. Developers should be prepared for Apple to remove existing content and applications (100+ on the store today) created with Flash CS5 from the iTunes store," he added.

Chambers said that Adobe would continue shipping the ability to target the iPhone and iPad in Flash CS5. However, the company is not planning any additional investments in that feature.

"Fortunately, the iPhone isn?t the only game in town. Android based phones have been doing well behind the success of the Motorola Droid and Nexus One, and there are a number of Android based tablets slated to be released this year. We are working closely with Google to bring both Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe AIR 2.0 to these devices, and thus far, the results have been very promising," Chambers added.

Apple doesn't sound terribly broken up about Adobe's announcement that it would stop developing its Flash-to-iPhone app building capabilities.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told CNet:

"Someone has it backwards, it is HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and H.264 (all supported by the iPhone and iPad) that are open and standard, while Adobe's Flash is closed and proprietary."

Twitter launches its advertising platform Promoted Tweets

Twitter launches its advertising platform, will begin his path Promoted Tweets with tweets "sponsored" search results in Twitter.

Companies will thus be able to buy keywords, like Google Adwords, which will be charged at CPM. Starbucks, Virgin America, Best Buy and Bravo will be the first customers for this service which will, according to Dick Costolo (Chief Operating Officer at Twitter) "improve communication that companies have with their customers."

Soon, the offer will be supplemented by a system of evaluation of effectiveness based on 9 criteria. Thus, if a sponsored tweet did not really resonate it will lose its status of "Promoted tweet" and disappear in the timeline with all messages "human".

If the service is paid, will also include Twitter tweets sponsored in the timeline of its users. Thus, users will appear on Twitter, and their customers, sponsored tweets without having done research. Just hope that this incorporation into the timelines is really relevant to the user ...

Based on the same model as Google Adwords and service, Twitter seems on track to successfully monetize its audience and not be (constantly) a victim of its success.

Facebook is launching a new security center

We learn from our childhood that we should not talk to people you do not know or leave information on our trainer. However, we often see on the Internet and especially on social networking behavior that might say "at risk".

This is why the team of Facebook , and especially its Security Advisory Committee, has launched more comprehensive security center .

The security center aims to provide safety tips for using Facebook as the user. Therefore, there is general advice to use but also more specific advice for parents, educators, youth and authorities.

All of these tips are designed to educate each other Facebook users, but we must also remember that this is also valid on all social networks and sites where you can share information.

Twitter wants to launch its own URL shorteners

Twitter has organized a 2 day conference dedicated solely to Twitter and its ecosystem, a conference where Twitter has announced a lot of new and pre-announcements on its service. (We will prepare a comprehensive summary of the conference)

Evan Williams, CEO of Twitter has just announced will launch its own service URL shorteners, shorteners to be fully integrated with the platform to have access to accurate statistics.

Bit.ly or tinyurl, the 2 leaders on the sector, should really start to fear. Twitter is putting in place a strategy on its impressive service.

Google wants to get rid of Chrome http://

A version of Google Chrome browser available to developers, wants to make a symbolic change in the way we look at the Internet every day. Since the http:// means neither more nor less than a web address will follow, and since everyone is more or less aware, the Google developers have decided to hide.

This is not an actual deletion, because the http:// is simply invisible to the user. For the record, this new feature has been first reported as a bug in the comments of wiki dedicated to Chromium , the open source project at the base of the browser.

This change had to happen sooner or later by Thom Holwerda of OSNews , "because the computer is to get rid of the complex a long time." But the early returns from developers who were able to test this browser version is mixed. What are the other protocols? The ftp, https, for example? For Google, the solution is simple: they will continue to be displayed.

Another problem, this functionality has not been discussed with other major players in the web, and a unilateral move by Google could bring to the complexity if other browsers do not follow. Many software (instant messaging, blogs, forums, for example) are able to automatically follow a link based on correspondence with the full address. If this feature was not implemented anywhere, it could lead users to omit the http://, "which would have a negative impact on the usability of the web," said a commentator on the wiki Chromium.

Toshiba prepares Android and Windows Tablet

Toshiba has confirmed that he prepared several models of Slate tablets or iPad running Android and Windows 7.

According to Jeff Barney, head of digital products in the U.S., Android is the shelf closest to the iPad, with a 10 inch screen and a lower price for devices running Windows 7. These should cover a higher range, with features like dual display.

"We see a place for digital slate," with a real market, which should not cannibalize one of netbooks, according to Jeff Barney. From this side of the Atlantic, Toshiba has already launched the Journ Touch, internet tablet with a wrapper for the moment on the operating system Windows CE 6. This version does not support third party applications that are standard on all projects Android, Windows 7 and iPhone OS to date.

No date has been officially announced - and no money for that matter - but various reports suggest that Toshiba's launch around the end of 2010 or early 2011.

Windows XP on the hunt for rootkits

In February, Microsoft was confronted with a wave of bugs through the application of a security patch for Windows XP. Many users complained of a reboot loop of their machine, and without apparent reason.

After investigation, Microsoft discovered that the original bug was nothing that Alureon a nice little rootkit installed on machines without the knowledge of users and causing extinction of recurrent PC after the patch KB977165 installed.

An unacceptable situation for the Redmond company, which, to overcome this problem, has announced that its next patch will incorporate a system for detecting rootkits. And in the case where the machine would host, the update would not be at. The user would be prompted to clean their computer before running the update.

An approach that could ultimately prove to be rather commendable for many people, the computer is probably invested rootkits without knowing it. These small programs have a tendency to settle in any discretion on its target, and allow a hacker to break into computers by stealth.

Nevertheless, in practice, the detection involves a scan of the machine forced to look for unwanted items. The price to pay to have an OS update?

AMD remains in the green Q1

After three consecutive years of losses, AMD had returned to profit in the last quarter of 2009 with an agreement signed with Intel, according to the terms of which the latter paid him $ 1.25 billion. For the first quarter of 2010, Advanced Micro Devices remains in the green: the founder effect in states have achieved during a net profit of 257 million dollars for a turnover of 1.57 billion. These results include an entry, however exceptional 325 million resulting from the deconsolidation of certain assets related to GlobalFoundries, entity owner of the former factory of AMD.

The processor industry, which remains the main source of revenue, AMD would have registered an increase of 23% over a year thanks to higher sales volumes supported. It falls, however slight decline from the fourth quarter of 2009, AMD is a factor attributed to a slightly lower demand, partially offset by higher average selling price of chips. As for graphics processors, AMD reported an increase of 88% over a year, particularly boosted by demand for chips dedicated to laptops.

"Offer products and solid operating performance led to record profits in the first quarter," has welcomed Dirk Meyer, president and CEO of AMD, in a statement. "We continue to strengthen our offer. We have launched the latest generation of our server platforms, expanding our family of cards support DirectX 11 and began shipments of our next generation platform for laptops to the consumer. "

The improvement, however, could not last. The second quarter 2010, the first of its new fiscal year, AMD said, expect to see a seasonal decline in revenues that will offset maybe not this time some outstanding assets.

Google: 1.955 billion dollars in profits over the quarter

Google, the first recipient of the recovery of the advertising market? The world's largest search engine said Thursday night with a quarterly revenue up 23% year on year, reaching 6.77 billion dollars before being returned to publishers of their income sites in its advertising network. Once this deduction, Google garnered 5.06 billion dollars, on which the Mountain View firm stated that it made a net profit of 1.955 billion, up 37.4% year on year.

The sponsored link is the goose that lays the golden eggs Google. The engine shows and have recorded a number of paid clicks rose 15% year on year, with an average price that rose about him from 7% in the first quarter of 2009.

With a war chest now estimated at $ 26.5 billion, Google said Thursday it would continue its policy of external growth, with a number of acquisitions that were not specified. In parallel, the engine that claims to have received 800 new employees over the quarter, says it wants to continue to recruit.

"In the future, we intend to continue to invest heavily in innovation to stimulate growth in our core business but also in new, and to help build the future of the open Web," said in a statement Patrick Pichette, Google's chief financial officer.

Microsoft releases the final version of Silverlight 4.0

As expected, Microsoft has posted the final version of Silverlight 4.0, latest version of its rendering plugin for rich Internet applications within the Web browser.

Firmly focused on multimedia, this version 4.0 introduces, among other innovations, support H264 video in high definition, management of multipoint touchscreens or interactions with devices like a webcam or microphone. Can also operate outside the browser, Silverlight 4.0 also sign support, offline, content protected by DRM Play Ready.

Today, Microsoft claims to have acquired a penetration rate of around 60% of the park of computers connected to the Internet. A score that the editor of Redmond hopes to increase due to expanded support for new browsers like Google Chrome.

On Windows, we can therefore take advantage of Silverlight 4.0 with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome 4.0. On the side of Mac OS X, the technology is limited to Firefox and Safari, only on machines with Intel chips. For Linux finally, we must turn to Moonlight 2.0 , an open source port achieved under the leadership of Miguel de Icaza, with support from Novell.

Alongside the online runtime for end customers, Microsoft has released a plug-in dedicated to its Visual Studio development suite, including the 2010 version is officially released earlier this week.

A trojan threatens to reveal browsing history porn

A Trojan horse type ransomware rampant in Japan. The trojan is called Kenzero a kind of hostage threatening to publish the browsing history from those who download porn videos and pirated games via the Winny P2P software. If the user does not want his love life exposed for all to see, he must pay a ransom.

The British television network BBC has revealed the existence of malware, explaining that the program uses the traditional method of phishing. A magnifying glass, a window installation of a game requires the user to enter personal information. The trojan then published on a website browsing history of the user.

The malware is clearly the people downloading hentai (Japanese anime porn) as a surfer caught in the trap receives an e-mail warning that he was caught in flagrante delicto. The message then offered to pay the sum of 1,500 yen (less than 12 euros) to off-line browsing history. 5,500 people would have already been taken by this trojan ...

However, the technique is known as the classical goal is to get the number of Internet credit card a bit too candid. The question is whether we can already call this small threat.

Google would have 2% of worldwide servers

Intacs , the U.S. site devoted to news of web hosting, had fun speculating about the number of servers available to large corporations Net to draw a flowchart .

Intacs was therefore based on estimates, including those of the Data Center Knowledge , to realize his scheme.

Regarding Google, the site has used figures provided by the company 4 years ago, while the number of servers of the search engine was estimated at 450 000 units. Intacs has revised that figure upward, since now the estimated number of Google servers to more than one million, or about 2% of all servers worldwide. An impressive, albeit taken lightly puisqu'absolument not validated by the company.

Far, far behind, there is Intel and its 100 000 servers , the host 1 & 1 with 70 000 units and 000 units with 65 OVH. The latter figure is also wrong, since last December, the company, through its CEO Octave Klab, claimed just 72,739 servers .

For others, such as Microsoft, Yahoo or Amazon, the site considers their individual park 50 000, although none report its information.

If the figures are clearly advertised as approximate, the overall result still offers an interesting perspective on the distribution of global server park.

We may also note that even if the number of servers Google has not changed since 2006, the company would still remained well ahead .

RipCode: Flash to show videos on iPhone and iPad

"If there is no solution, there is no problem." The U.S. RipCode, specializes in designing solutions to real-time video transcoding, this week announced the upcoming launch of an offer that would allow companies and media that play Flash video playback to provide their content on mobile devices from Apple, yet do not support the format supported by Adobe.

Real bone of contention between Apple and Adobe, not management of Flash technology with the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad forced numerous sites and specialized services to encode their video content in a format that can be read on Apple's products. The constraint is important because it involves issuing two separate streams for one video and store on its servers two versions of a file.

As a workaround, RipCode is announcing the upcoming marketing of its "TransAct Transcoder V6, an application server capable of re-encoding on the fly Flash content when called by a product that is not compatible with this technology. In other words, when a user tries to read an iPad Flash video, it is rerouted in real time and seamlessly to a new video stream generated by the tool RipCode.

Performed server side, this manipulation has an elegant component that requires no special software on the client side. According RipCode, the solution TransAct Transcoder V6 easily take place in any system of streaming video from the moment it is based on a Linux-based, coupled with Intel processors. The question remains how much it will cost.

Intel announces the Light Peak in 2011

At the Intel Developer Forum 2009, the U.S. manufacturer had presented the Light Peak , a new technology to transfer data between two devices using optical fiber.

The main advantage lies in the Light Peak transfer rate announced, consisting of 10 gigabits per second, twice the USB 3.0. The technology is also capable of handling multiple standards such as Firewire, DisplayPort, USB, Ethernet or SATA: its use would therefore drastically reduce the number of cables used on computers, both externally only internally.

Intel announced yesterday at the 2010 edition of the IDF, that the Light Peak will be available next year on the market. The manufacturer's listing as an alternative to USB 3.0, but nourishes ambitions more consistent with his new baby: "We see the Light Peak as the logical successor future of USB 3.0," said Kevin Kahn, one leaders of society. "We would like to offer the latter type of cable you have to use.

But before the Light Peak dominates the world, we'll have to update, hardware ..

Google expands its search in the archives of Twitter

Having launched its search service in real time - the answer page in addition a continuous flow from Facebook, MySpace and Twitter - Google now offers a search function in the archives of Twitter. This new feature in the form of time-scale evolution of messages posted on Twitter, with a statistical indication as blue bars.

For the Google Blog , this feature is justified by "constant conversation" that exists with blog services and micro-blogging. "Starting today, you can zoom into any point in time and review what people were saying publicly about a Twitter." The function should be deployed on all English versions of the engine search in two days, and should appear later in other languages. Google did not specify any date, but provided a link to test the service.

The interest of the service? Google explains by example: "You want to know what people were posting during your marathon?" The service will be available in the search options tab Updates released for display in real time recently. A table will appear, which will choose a search term, and the extent of the time scale: two days, the last month or last year. Google allows for instant back to February 11, 2010, but announced the upcoming availability of the archives until March 21, 2006, the date of first tweet Jack Dorsey, Twitter co-founder: "just setting up my twttr."

Alex eBook Dual Screen starts at $ 399

The first electronic reading lamp from American Spring Design had marked the spirits during his presentation at CES in Las Vegas last January. Claiming to want to combine the best of both worlds yet distant, he actually proposed to discover "Alex", a hybrid features - such as Barnes & Noble Nook - two screens: an e-ink slab similar to the one we found on the Amazon Kindle and dedicated to the display of electronic books, in which we find another slab, LCD this time to interact with Android, the mobile operating system from Google.

The bet all-in-one will he pay? On the upper part of this unit to gauge uncommon, we thus find a slab of a 6 inch diagonal on which we can view works in formats EPUB, PDF, HTML and TXT files, stored on a MicroSD card (2GB provided ). At the bottom, a 3.5-inch touch screen from which we can exploit the features of Android and connect to the Internet through WLAN controllers and GSM / 3G, subject of course to have a SIM card.

Really necessary, these two screens? Spring Design is hard to remember that it is possible to annotate the work being played or to manage your library from e-ink slab, we can totally listen to music, launch video or surf the Internet using the Android embedded. It thus enjoys the comfort of reading on a stone dedicated, without sacrificing the side "connected applications" that is now the happy hours of products like the iPhone. It remains to be seen to what extent the use of these features web / multimedia impacts the battery life, since the use of an electronic ink is at this level one of the highlights.

Supplied with a pair of headphones, a USB cable, a protective case and a 2GB MicroSD card, the player Alex is finally available for purchase from $ 399, or about 300 euros, two colors. A reasonable fee under the hybrid nature of the device, but still higher than that of devices dedicated exclusively to the consultation of electronic books. Spring Design could also suffer because his camera is so far backed any content distribution service. It will remain in all cases an original idea, which could well be emulated.

The iPad costs 260 dollars in hardware

Barely out the iPad, scholars have sought to assess its real cost from the selling price. The site iSuppli has dissected the latest in the Apple lineup for estimating the cost of each component. Result, the touch pad would cost twice cheaper than the price at which it is sold in stores, or $ 499 in its basic version.

Already in February, iSuppli had estimated the cost of the iPad around 219.35 dollars. This time, the observations of the site show that the tablet would cost just 259.60 dollars for the 16GB version A closer look, the most expensive component proves to be the screen of 9.7 inches estimated at $ 95, following Flash storage 29.50 dollars. The next processor manufactured by Samsung estimated at 26.80 dollars and aluminum hull color $ 10.50.

If you do the math, the cost of all materials is 52% of the selling price of the iPad 16GB version for the 64GB version to $ 699 is sold, it is estimated at 348.10 dollars. A difference that is reminiscent of the estimated cost iPhone 3Gs costing 128 euros to the company Apple and charged around 599 euros ...

However, these costs "estimated" does not reflect the number of parameters that come into play in the development and dissemination of a product. So add development costs, assembly costs, distribution and marketing, R & D, transportation, taxes ... and the price should not approach from that which it is proposed. As such, iSuppli speculated that 40% of the cost of the iPad would be associated with improvements of the touch screen and "components affecting the user interface. An argument which has apparently no price for Apple.

Its 10-inch screen could actually be a definition WXGA option (as opposed to the usual WSVGA), although it is still no mention of accelerator chip for high definition. The hard drive has finally function fall detection until now reserved for higher models.

It also preserves the technical specifications of the S10-3 and thus the eternal home Atom N450 clocked at 1.66 GHz, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and a 160GB hard drive can also accommodate the Atom N470 optional variant running at 1.83GHz processor and low consumption of Intel, 2 GB of RAM, hard disk with a capacity of 250 to 320 GB SSD or 16 to 32 GB  based operating system with which it comes, Windows 7 Starter Edition or Windows XP. They also feature a chassis, hinges and a locking system strengthened. The manufacturer responds directly to Lenovo ThinkPad whose family is renowned for its strength.

The HP EliteBook 2740p revolves, literally this time around a multi-touch screen of 12.1 inches. It is indeed an ultraportable convertible tablet. Described as ultraportable, but it does not compromise on performance by housing a Core i5 520M, 620M 540m or i7 voltage normal (not low voltage) associated with the integrated graphics chip, up to 8 GB RAM and hard disk from 160 to 320 GB Unlike a convertible netbook, it houses an optical unit length that can be replaced by an optional additional battery. The HP EliteBook 2540p has about him a conventional 12.1-inch screen. This model focuses on its self weight and the wide variety of possible combinations. Intel Core i7 640LM low voltage is proposed in addition to those  mentioned above. The iPad will not start without problems

The iPad: no problem, only solutions? Just days after its launch on the U.S. market, the iPad is a lot about him, and not that good. Fortunately, Apple seems to standby and ready to find a solution to most problems, while putting the tablet out of court.

The first concern noted by users was difficult to reload on the iPad: the latter, although connected to the computer, do not load. Apple has updated the page on its support , and advises them to load the beast through its USB Power Adapter 10W, or to connect to a USB 2.0 high power, as found on newer Macs.

For older PC and Mac, the manufacturer indicated that the iPad should be suspended for charging: in this case it seems impossible to load it and use it simultaneously.

The second problem concerns the Wi-Fi: Some users have indeed encountered weak reception signal their iPad or a loss of recognition of the network after rebooting the machine. For Apple, the problem is not the iPad, but some routers Wi-Fi dual-band capable of using the same name for several networks, or integrate several security modes on the same network.

The parade indicated by Apple to solve the problem is quite simple: as always support the brand , it is sufficient to separate the names of the networks, and ensure that they operate under the same security
settings. And  if these precautions are not sufficient, a quick reboot
of the connection parameters of the iPad seems entirely appropriate.

If Apple has found relatively convenient solutions to problems both for the third, this may be a bit more complicated: the iPad would have a tendency to overheat quickly during extended use in sun, or in his case black. Check the temperature of 35 ° C fateful, the tablet displays an error message, and goes to sleep until it cools.

A scenario which will undoubtedly common in the hot summer ... And hopefully Apple explains on its medium how to fix it.

Apple unveil iPhone OS 4.0 April 8

After the first weekend of the iPad marketing, Apple has sent an invitation Monday to the American press for an event dedicated to the fourth version of the operating system that equips its mobile devices. The presentation of this "iPhone OS 4.0" will take place Thursday, April 8, around 18 hours, Paris time.

If the invitation sent no doubt about the nature of the event in Cupertino, Apple has so far leaked any information on the new developments that could emerge in this update.

Among the ads possible, we of course think of introducing a comprehensive multitasking third party applications available through the App Store, without knowing whether it would be really possible to run simultaneously several software packages, or just a better system of notifications that partially compensates for his absence today.

Some also expect easy management of installed applications from the App Store, with the multiplication on the home screen sometimes discourages some users to get new ones installed. This famous home screen, the springboard, could also known its share of changes, why not with the possibility of moving the display from portrait to landscape on the iPhone and iPod Touch, as it is already possible to do with the iPad.

Some also assume that Apple could use the event to unveil to the press the fourth-generation iPhone, so as to prepare an official launch which occurs in early summer, one year after the arrival of the iPhone 3GS. Finally, we attribute to the Cupertino company's intention to reveal the contents of his ambitions for online advertising, with a monetization platform called iad .

Netbook with the ideal keyboard

Netbooks are, for example, beautiful and stylish , long-working , protected from moisture and dust . But all they have in common at least one thing - a small and awkward keyboard. She seems so got designer Yang Yongchanga that he developed netbook iWEB 2.0 with full-size keyboard.

Of course, the designer did not stretch the size of a computer in order to equip it with a normal and comfortable keyboard. Instead, he invented the concept of netbook with a folding keyboard, which consists of three parts.

The central segment of the keyboard iWEB 2.0 motionless. But its two side edges are formed as the edges of ordinary cardboard box. As a result, in the assembled state iWEB 2.0 is no different from dozens of similar computers. This keyboard fit not only the basic set of keys, but also a number of additional function buttons.

Do not forget to iWEB 2.0 and touchpad. But, given the particular design, it is long and narrow, and resembles the button space. In order to work with a computer was more comfortable in the center of the keyboard trackball is located.

Will Production of so unusual netbook is unknown. Meanwhile, leading manufacturers of disenchantment with these machines .

Sharp screen "3D" for mobile phone

The Japanese Sharp announces the next generation of LCD screen can reproduce a stereoscopic image without the need to wear a pair of glasses adapted. Initially, the technology developed will remain confined to the mobile phone market.

Sharp says he managed to overcome this constraint. Its screen would have a physical layer that can redirect light along two different angles, so as to send two separate images to the man who holds in his hand. The device that the manufacturer does not elaborate further, is called "parallax barrier", referring to the term which refers to variations on the observation of an object on the user's position.

The allusion is not trivial, since the screen does not restore Sharp's 3D terrain and users correctly placed in the center of the slab, if it is placed approximately 30 cm from their eyes. If necessary, they will see a blurred image.

Microsoft loses another appeal on patent Word / XML

The giant Microsoft has dismissed her complaint with the Court of Appeals United States. For the second time, the firm is accused of violating patents related to processing XML files in Word. In a statement , the company says that the i4i Canadian Federal Court of Appeal has rejected Microsoft's request to review the case by a panel of 11 judges.

Already on December 22 last, the appeal court had ordered Microsoft to pay 290 million dollars to i4i and had issued an injunction prohibiting the sale of its Word software on American soil. This time, Loudon Owen, Chairman of i4i, said: "The process was long and arduous, but this decision strongly reinforces the message that small business owners and inventors of intellectual property can be protected and will" .

The decision was already a confirmation of the Trial Judgement in favor of Canadian society. What push the software giant to its limits. As a result, Microsoft was forced to remove the XML in Word 2003 and 2007 versions sold overseas. A forced choice insofar i4i's complaint was based on a request submitted in 1994 and validated by the U.S. Patent Office (USPTO) in 1998.

Microsoft now has the option to use it again or turn to the Supreme Court for a retrial and especially to contest his conviction to pay 290 million dollars.
