NVIDIA remote server dedicated to 3D rendering

Unveiled in September at the event GPU Tech, 3D rendering solution remote from NVIDIA will be officially launched on 30 November. Rather than getting into internal stations necessary to very heavy calculations render an image "photorealistic", project studios and other 3D professionals can then decide to execute them remotely, according to the principle of cloud computing, using special servers with Intel graphics, delivering a stream that has only be displayed.

The promise? Get on the workstation connected to the Internet, delivered in real time or substantially all of calculations remotely on the server. The platform proposed by NVIDIA combines servers with maps software Tesla RealityServer its subsidiary mental images. At first glance, the solution actually offers some advantages: the data is centralized, and potentially more secure than an individual workstation.

To demonstrate the benefits of this solution, the manufacturer takes the example of automotive design teams who want to share the results of calculations of some type ray-tracing, as the rendering of a concept under different lighting. Other paths could also be open, especially in the field of marketing, allowing, for example see the result of interactions with a product modeled in 3D without waiting on a desktop thin client.

Reste à voir comment se comportera la solution concrètement, et si les problématiques de transfert des données n'en réduiront pas l'intérêt par rapport à des stations de rendu locales. For a configuration based Tesla TS 8 GPU, NVIDIA suggests a starting price of about $ 25,000. RealityServer will in turn charged by the terms of a license at $ 3,000 per GPU. Fans who wish to experience this type of solution can however download and use a free developer version of the software, limited to non-commercial applications.

Google will launch "Google Audio" for online music

According to the site techcrunch.com, Google is about to launch "Google Audio," a new platform for online music.

"We do not know yet if he will listen to or download (..) But it seems that Google is different from the audio service launched in China," said Michael Arrington, editor in chief of Techcrunch, generally well informed.

Apart from its subsidiary YouTube broadcast of clips, Google is relatively quiet in the musical universe. Its main initiative is www.google.cn / music, a service that allows Chinese Internet users to consult the records of artists but also to listen to or download some tracks.

"Google Music OneBox is part of Google will make information more accessible," we explained then a representative of Google said the service is not accompanied by any revenue sharing with its Chinese partners.

So simple transposition of the Chinese model or real Google Music Store? Speculation is increasing regarding the mysterious Google Audio although the Mountain View firm is currently silent on his plans in music.

Google accused of piracy in China

China also has something to say about Google Books and accuse the U.S. giant for having sat on the rights of its authors, some political leaders.

The sling anti-Google Books does not know a priori boundaries. Already criticized in countries where a mutual agreement must still be approved for the Justice, the scanning service and delivery of online books was tackle from Europe. Main criticism, that of having to scan everything-goes into the fund for libraries not really interested only subsequently to the issue of copyright.

In this game, just under 18 000 Chinese books were included in Google Books, and apparently illegally. This is just to inform the company of copyright for works written in China. And the case could become highly sensitive since among the works singled out, some were written by Chinese officials.

"Google has violated a widely accepted rule in copyright that requires permission and payment of fees before scanning, and use of copyrighted works. [...] None of the authors that we contacted told us have been Google advised by the use of their work "

Said the Director-General of the society. Failing amicable agreement, legal proceedings are contemplated.

In the United States, the Digital Library project Google has been the subject of conciliation with the representatives of authors and publishers. This agreement provides for payment of $ 125 million to fund the registry rights on the books that should enable the beneficiaries, whose works have been placed online via Google Books without their explicit consent to obtain compensation. A revised agreement must be resubmitted to the U.S. Justice November 9.

Recently, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, strongly criticizing Google Books, declaring that "copyright should be protected on the Internet. [...] We therefore reject the scan if it does not include such protection , as does Google. "

World Of Goo Review of the sale price to "free"

On 13 October, the two developers of 2D Boy announced the launch of a promotional offer to greet the first anniversary of their only game, World of Goo: "download the game by paying what you want!" Now and then the tender is extended until October 25, the two cronies beginning to take stock.

Firstly, it is interesting to note that the offer has sparked a veritable rush Goo "which saw some 57 000 people buy the game from the official website of its creators. Given the sums expended, 2D Boy says that the average rate of play was established at 2.03 dollars, but there is still paltry 16 852 who decided to spend only the bare minimum, or $ 0.01.

More gratifying, many people paid more than $ 1 and developers do not complain: they collected about 100 000 dollars for a simple message and a promotion on a game they have done for over a year .. . Not without humor, they also highlight several "facts" fun: Steam version has recorded a sales increase of 40% and the Wii version has seen an increase of 9% ... Of course, the promotion did not involve any of these platforms!

Apple Multi-Touch mouse for just $69

The new mouse from Apple today unveiled alongside the announcement of a new MacBook and new ranges iMac and Mac Mini. Successor of the controversial Mighty Mouse, it n'embarque no moving parts: the interactions are the tip of the finger or fingers, through a touch screen.

Seamless Multi-Touch Surface

Magic Mouse — with its low-profile design and seamless top shell — is so sleek and dramatically different, it brings a whole new feel to the way you get around on your Mac. You can’t help but marvel at its smooth, buttonless appearance. Then you touch it and instantly appreciate how good it feels in your hand. But it’s when you start using Magic Mouse that everything comes together.

The Multi-Touch area covers the top surface of Magic Mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

 Laser-Tracking Engine

Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that’s far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on nearly every surface — whether it’s a table at your favorite cafe or the desk in your home office — without the need for a mousepad.

Wireless

Magic Mouse connects wirelessly to your Mac via Bluetooth, so there’s no wire or separate adapter to worry about. Pair Magic Mouse with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac and enjoy a reliable and secure connection up to 33 feet away. When you combine Magic Mouse with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, you create a workspace free of annoying cables. And because Magic Mouse is wireless, it can venture beyond the confines of your desk. A quick flick of the on/off switch helps conserve battery power while Magic Mouse is tucked in your bag. Even when it’s on, Magic Mouse manages power efficiently, by detecting periods of inactivity automatically.

Finally, the Magic Mouse is developing multitouch functionality. With two fingers, so we can scroll through tabs in Safari or albums from iTunes. Via System Preferences in Mac OS X, you can disable some of these options, set the sensitivity of certain actions and move the mouse mode "lefty" because its symmetrical shapes make them an ambidextrous design.

Remains to be seen in practice how accustomed the mechanical mouse buttons studded live with the transition to touch. Delivered by default with the previous iMac, the Magic Mouse is also sold only at a price of 69 euros in France ($ 69 overseas). It will work with any Bluetooth-enabled Macintosh computer.

Nine `flaws' in Google's Wave

Google Wave is the latest buzz to hit the internet shores. Recently, the Web search giant sent out 100,000 select invites for a limited preview for the app that it claims to be the future of all internet conversations. What Wave does is to integrate e-mail, instant messaging (IM), collaboration, Google maps as well as search. Wave's most striking feature is said to be its speed. It lets users transfer data, pictures and files realtime and also facilitates collaborative editing.

Though it is still too early to pass a judgment on Google Wave, most users feel that there are still many issues with the application. From missing features to complexities in usage, the list seems long. eWeek's Clint Boulton has listed a few gripes that users have from Google Wave. Here's bringing to you the nine things most users didn't like in Google Wave.

 Where is the killer app?

Don't believe the hype, writes Boulton. According to him, Wave is not the new killer Internet application. The app is not a replacement for Twitter, FriendFeed or Facebook.

Google Wave may be instant messaging and distributed editing in real time-collaboration on steroids, but it is surely not the new Twitter.

Chaos prevails

Google Wave is total chaos! Boulton writes using Wave seems to be like preaching to the choir, with multiple writings at the same time and several cursors zipping across the screen. According to him, "Instead of the one-to-one communications mode of IM, Wave is many-to-many."

Too confusing

Mastering Google Wave is not easy. "Because Wave is so confusing, it will take some time for people to learn how to use it. This isn't like Twitter, where you can pick up and just run with it," writes Boulton. Users will have to show patience as reading, grokking and working in Waves is sure to take time.

Lacks `social' feature

Boulton finds Google Wave `socially inept'. Unlike social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and others, users can't see profile biographies or real names, or even manage Wave users and group them. "It's one, big free-for-all. This wouldn't work for a project management effort," writes Boulton.

No draft mode

Users decry lack of draft mode in Google Wave. It' like a jungle out there, where everyone is typing at the same time. Users need a draft mode in Google Wave so that they can type without people seeing them. "This will eliminate the distracting cursor pulses," says Boulton.

No permissions

It seems it is free for all as no permissions are required! Yes, in Google Wave anyone can become your Wave contact. For, there is absolutely no permission required. Anyone who has your user ID, can add you to Wave. And, as Boulton writes, "That needs to change. There need to be permissions."

Regulator missing

Still wondering about the lack of requisite permissions in Google Wave? Here's another miss to add to your concern. Once a Wave is released, there is no control over it, no one to manage it. May be, Wave can do better with some Wikipedia-type editorship, adds Boulton.

Document format is XML, not HTML

Some users have also taken the issue that the document format in Wave is based on XML, not HTML so everyone can display it. According to Boulton, "This will make it more challenging for developers to build other presentation layers on top of the Wave platform."
