Which is 5 Worst Websites ?

eHarmony.com

Worst Websites list is eHarmony.com. The site claims to be the `#1 trusted online dating site for singles'. However, Time.com seems to differ. According to it, after making users answer some 436 compatibility survey questions and taking its premium charges ($21 to $60 a month), the site many a times delivers terrible recommendations -- or worse, even rejects users as unmatchable.

eHarmony.com's advice to users to continue with it for several months to improve their odds of finding a soul mate too looks self-serving, considering that the longer a user stays with the site, the more he pays.

Evite.com

Evite.com, a popular online invitation and social planning website. Time.com writes that the site is crying for an overhaul. In today's time when UGC (user-generated content) rules the roost, Evite's fill-in-the-blanks approach appears clumsy and dated. The ads on the site too are said to be intrusive, and navigation a drag.

The site has also been rather slow in adopting some of the media-sharing tools that have become almost a standard way of the Web. Incidentally, many of these features are said to be in development.

Meez.com

The virtual hangout Meez.com too makes it to the Worst Websites list. It may be a trend to tack poems, photos, icons, logos etc onto e-mail messages, however, the 3D animations and other digital doodads created with the help of Meez and other sites of its ilk - Blingee, Iconator - are just plain annoying, writes Time.

Plus, these also end up clogging the recipient's inbox with unnecessary bits. Though the Meez.com insists that the app is not a spyware or an adware, however, it still slows down one's computer.

MySpace.com

This name will surely surprise most Netizens. For, MySpace is not only one of the most popular social networking sites, but also happened to be the no. 1 social networking site till sometime back.

However, lately the MySpace community seems to have become infested with marketers and other opportunists who create false profiles and spam other users, all under the guise of “making friends.”

According to Time.com, though MySpace has always been known to carry loads of profiles of fictional characters, created to help market a movie or promote some brand, the recent `bait-and-switch tactics' have turned the things a bit sad.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which allows users to retain their number even if they switch operators, will be introduced in two phases, the telecoms regulator said, first in the metro cities and the so-called Category A telecom zones and in other areas by March 20.

The regulator also notified certain charges associated with MNP and said switching charges for users must not exceed Rs 19. However, operators are free to levy any amount less than or equal to this charge.

Mobile Number Portability Features

Mobile Number Portability Features
  • The subscriber who wishes to port his mobile number should approach the Recipient operator (the operator to whom the subscriber wants to port his number). The Subscriber may be required to pay porting charges, if any, to the Recipient Operator.
  • A subscriber holding a mobile number is eligible to make a porting request only after 90 days of the date of activation of his mobile connection. If a number is already ported once, the number can again be ported only after 90 days from the date of the previous porting.
  • MNP facility shall be available only within a given licensed service area.
  •  The subscriber making the porting request is required to have cleared all the bills issued prior to the date of porting request. He shall give an undertaking that he has already paid all billed dues to the Donor Operator as on the date of the request for porting and that he shall pay dues to the Donor Operator pertaining to the mobile number till its eventual porting and that he understands and agrees that in event of non-payment of any such dues to the Donor Operator, the ported mobile number shall be liable to be disconnected by the Recipient Operator.
  • A subscriber may withdraw his porting request within 24 hours of its submission to the Recipient Operator. However, the porting charges shall not be refundable.
  • The regulation envisage a maximum time period of 4 days for the completion of porting process in all licensed service areas except in the case of J&K, Assam and North East licensed service areas where the maximum time allowed is 12 days. However, efforts will be made to further reduce the porting period.
  • Access Providers are required to implement All Call Query method.
  • The Originating operator shall be responsible to route the call to correct terminating network.

Orange Livebox displays its code free

Relatively quietly, Orange posted the site Livebox open source software when the operator releases the list of licensed software free or open source used by the modem router for Internet access. More mystery, like his comrades, the Livebox uses elements and essentially free under GPLv2.

That site gives this view by focusing on the Livebox version 1, 1.2 and 2. If necessary, it is possible to have access to source code elements listed. It remains strange that inequality seems to appear between these versions, which begs questions about the completeness of certain lists. Sagem has perhaps not played the game as much as Thomson (who bought Invetel).

For Sagem Livebox labeled 1, the list of open source software is on the fingers of one hand and a little more for the Livebox 2, unlike the case of Thomson (Livebox 1). It becomes suspicious when, for the Livebox 1.2, Sagem and Thomson are put in one basket, and this time the Linux kernel (for example) is shown for both. It is probably too early to draw real conclusions, since the page on the Livebox 1.2 is still marked in construction. The riddle should eventually clear up a priori.

Via the Neuf Box 4 Open Source Software, you can access the source code for the Neuf Box 4. For Free, the question has always been more controversial. Free position has always been that "when a product that uses a soft GPL is sold, the seller must provide the sources of soft GPL. Free does not sell the Freebox, it is owned by Free, c 'is a termination of its network, the sources need not be provided.

Dell offers Chromium OS before its time

Dell uses the open source foundation of the future OS of Google Chromium for OS propose to hold a netbook Mini 10v. Experimental support.

One key to the time in field experiments. Engineers who work for the manufacturer Dell rushed on the basis of Chrome open source OS to provide a first contact for users with a 10v Mini netbook. A specially adapted version of Chromium OS as an image of 8 GB to put on a bootable USB key (image file to a USB key to install the operating system).

Doug Anson explains the procedure to follow, said that without a network connection Chromium OS is not interesting, not surprisingly, the OS is free to the dedicated web and its applications as the central element Chromium browser (Google Chrome for the final version of Google).

The startup time is not that of 7 seconds but approaching the expected 12 seconds. If Doug Anson has taken particular care that the Wi-Fi Adapter Broadcom is functional in the image proposed Chromium OS, he noted several problems, including the order of 5 to 10 minutes before the connection manager network does not allow the user to view the different access points and choose your connection. It also underlines the fact that this is a support of the OS is highly experimental and totally unstable.

Dell is known for offering pre-installed operating system Ubuntu on some models. Google Chrome OS must appear on the first computers in the second half of 2010 through OEM partnerships. Google has already given names such as Acer, ASUS, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo or Toshiba but not Dell. The manufacturer will he continue to experience Chromium OS in its own corner?

Firefox: 50% of users satisfied after Update

The Mozilla Foundation is seeking as much feedback as possible from its users. To this end, several pages in Mozilla version U.S. show in their lower right corner a triangular orange button. This is the case of three pages considered critical by Mozilla: the page that presents sites, extensions and tips to start with Firefox, the page first launch the browser and the What's New page.

That orange button to send a smiley representative experience more or less happy with the web browser on that page and leave comments in the form of complaints with the desire for more information or to make the desire for improvements to Firefox.

In recent weeks, over 16 000 users have clicked on the button Get Feeback following the automatic display of the What's New page after updating Firefox. Even if the extrapolation of a general feeling for all Firefox users is a bit random, Mozilla still draws some lessons and considers that just over half the users are satisfied with the Firefox experience. A feeling prevails also in a first use of Firefox.

Not everything seems rosy, however, and a number considered significant user (no figure given) has left comments in connection with the desire to want to get rid of the page, setting up a page of home that has not been saved. One last bug that should be corrected with the next update to Firefox.

Eee PC 1201T first netbook from Asus AMD

The Eee PC family is about to commit his first infidelity. Even if it has already allowed some differences in succumbing to the charms of the chameleon, the manufacturer today announced a netbook with AMD solution, while no model had hitherto totally rejected Intel.

A week after launching the Eee PC to 1201N NVIDIA Ion and failing to have made a double take, then Asus made a 180 degree turn and announced the Eee PC 1201T. Almost identical in terms of aesthetics, it actually houses a platform AMD Congo, originally intended to fill the gap left between netbooks and notebooks conventional, composed by a processor double heart low-voltage AMD Athlon X2 clocked Neo at 1.6 GHz and a graphics chip ATI Radeon 3200 that supports decoding of high definition video like the GeForce 9400M integrated solution NVIDIA Ion. We also find 2GB of RAM and hard drive 250 GB

Windows 7 Comes Home Premium with a 6 cell battery, it would according to the manufacturer an endurance of 4 hours, slightly less than its elder combining Intel and NVIDIA. The launch date and accurate pricing for this Asus Eee PC 1201T are still unknown.

AOL, a system for producing content in mass

If the concepts of the AOL logo next move anywhere on the Web, Tim Armstrong, chief executive of Internet portal, has unveiled the group's strategy for content. Indeed, the company is finalizing a system for mass production of items of different natures. This initiative is of course to attract Internet users but also advertising agencies, so as to blur the boundaries between journalism and advertising.

Interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, the CEO stated: "content is one aspect of the web has not been exploited up to its potential." The technology allows to analyze queries made through search engines and many other data to determine exactly what users want to read and thus to provide spaces for dreams advertisers. The editorial team of AOL will work so closely with advertisers, although it would appear that they have no right to control what is written.

Other companies use similar technology as the Associated Content and Demand Media. According to several sources Tim Armstrong also possess several actions in these start-ups. In 2009 the turnover of Demand Media is estimated between 200 and 300 million dollars with more than one million articles written in pole position and contributors to YouTube. AOL would therefore follow that example and most of the 500 editors permanent group added 3000 seed.com freelance network. When a subject is identified by the analysis system, rather than producing a single article, AOL will now be able to offer several different angles of approach. Once the article submitted by a freelancer, different filters are applied to ensure that the content has not been plagiarized or does not contain inappropriate words. The item will then be submitted to a publisher who will read it and then publish it.

Besides the prediction of subjects potentially treatable, the AOL system is also capable of determining the price a potential advertiser would pay for ads to put his side of an article or video. Indeed, this calculation will determine the salary of a freelancer. AOL promises, at least, share and advertising revenue to over $ 100 a freelance.

Mobile Internet Devices (MID) in turmoil Publi

What Future for Mobile Internet Devices, or MID (Mobile Internet Devices), developed by Intel and its partners? Competing UMPCs, or Ultra Mobile PC invented by Microsoft, the MID are mini computers connected over 3G or WiFi equipped for most of a GNU / Linux.

But the MID are not always popular among the general public despite the democratization of netbooks incorporating a chip or the latest 3G smartphones like the Nokia N900. According to Digitimes, several companies have actually announced their intention to leave the MIDI (Mobile Internet Device Innovation Alliance), the Intel alliance designed to develop such products.

The latter would rather now instead develop a new range of products, SmartBooks pushed by Qualcomm of the digital book readers increasingly popular. What is the difference between a MID and a SmartBook? The latter also operates a GNU / Linux but has the characteristic to be optimized for mobile use, for instance by being always connected, even being on standby, like a simple mobile phone.

The question is whether Intel will encourage its partners - such as Quanta, Compal, BenQ, Gigabyte or Asus - to launch by mid 2010, mid exploiting its next mobile platform "Moorestown". And if mobile users the plebiscite.

Ubisoft confirmed to be working on Far Cry 3

Kevin Shortt, Ubisoft Montreal this week confirmed what many already suspected: the development of a third game for the hit series, Far Cry. Although not offer many details said that so far things look "very exciting."

Last year the narrative designer Patrick Redding said that the sequel is likely to remain in Africa, but apparently this concept has been discarded. Antarctica has also been mentioned as an option but nothing is certain yet. So far it appears that the game will be based on an enhanced version of the Dunia engine, an extensively modified version of CryEngine specifically created to manage complex real-world physical effects within a sandbox environment.

The 7 lucky to Microsoft. Taiwan's Acer Group, the second manufacturer worldwide, told Reuters that the new Windows 7 is selling well.

The computer manufacturer table effect on a 25% increase in sales this quarter and over 15% for all of 2010. "When we saw the features of Windows 7, we immediately understood that there is a strong demand," said Reuters chief executive officer.

Silverlight comes indirectly iPhone

The video content streamed using Silverlight technology should soon be playable on the Apple iPhone. Insofar as the Cupertino company prohibits the development of execution environments such as Flash or Silverlight on its terminal, Microsoft has opted to bypass this limitation by working on the server side. Specifically, it is simply to allow a publisher who wants one of his videos can be viewed on iPhone's true streaming broadcast in a format compatible.

"We've worked with Apple to create a server-side solution with IIS Media Services," said Brian Goldfarb, responsible user experience at Microsoft, to Betanews. "What we are doing is taking content that is encoded for streaming our progressive and allow the owner to say" I want this to work on iPhone ". The server will dynamically make the content compatible, same content, same entry point, with the iPhone. To do this, he explains, in particular to use the  video HTML 5, "in many ways. Without complex manipulations and without re-encoding, it becomes possible to read a Silverlight video on iPhone.

So we know the manufacturer hostile to the introduction of third party technologies in the mobile environment, Betanews asks, appropriately, on the fact that Microsoft claims to have worked with Apple on the subject. In reality, the publisher would have "done all the work, but had obtained approval from Apple without difficulties. This finding should open up avenues for those who like Adobe would like to enter the Apple ecosystem?

In the meantime, Microsoft should be happy to communicate on the subject at the exit of the final version of Silverlight 4. This effort tends to show that his statements concerning the nature of its technology platform intended for rich Web applications do not remain dead letter.

Intel Core Core i3 and i5 Details and prices

Intel should benefit from ESC, which will be held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, 2010, to launch Clarkdale, the first chip using a new process to 32 nm. First representative of the Westmere architecture, this chip contains according to the pace of innovation pendulum (tick tock) CPU derived from the Nehalem architecture, which she assistant for the first time a GPU, which confined him for a fine etching of 45 nm.

An e-tailer has also revealed the latest details on future CPUs based on this chip, including the frequencies of the GPU.

The first Clarkdale are as planned six double hearts.

The i5 650 Core, Core i5 660 and Core i5 670 show respectively a native frequency of 3.20, 3.33 and 3.46 GHz, which can increase to 3.46, 3.60 and 3.73 GHz turbo mode if all hearts were not solicited. The core logic are also lined through function simultaneous multithreading (SMT or formerly hyperthreading). They appear to pre-order about 130, 140 and 200 euros.

In entry level, the Core i3 530 and 540 clocked at 2.93 and 3.06 GHz are devoid of function SMT, so they have as many hearts as hearts logical physical and denied the turbo mode. They are in turn offered to about 85 and 100 euros.

GPU these five processors, known for now it supports hardware acceleration for decoding high definition video, like the GMA 4500MHD. It is clocked at 733 MHz against 400 to 533 MHz for the latter. The top five processors also show the same TDP of 73 W.

The Core i5 661, sixth and last Clarkdale, finally takes the key specifications of the Core i5 660 which it is derived. It is distinguished by its GPU clocked at 900 MHz and its TDP logically pointed to 87 W. Sold at the same price as the 660, it would for example run World of Warcraft maximum quality and 1920 × 1200 pixels at 30 fps.

P2P: Mininova remove all illegal torrents

After several months of legal wrangling, Mininova, famous-sharing service BitTorrent links, falls in rank, and bends to the verdict in the case against the Brein, the Netherlands Organization for the fight against piracy. Site administrators have removed Thursday, the full links to download files subject to copyright. Pending a possible appeal, Mininova will simply reference the files legally distributed in its program Content Distribution.

Sentenced last August 26, Mininova had three months to remove all links to content protected by copyright, under penalty of a fine of 1 000 per illegal torrent up to 5 million euros. Its directors were also put in place a filtering device to prevent them prior to sending links of this type.

"We tested several filtering devices past two months, but we realized it was neither technically nor operationally, to implement an effective system to 100%. Therefore, we decided that the only valid option was limited to torrents from Mininova's Content Distribution Program ", explained the team on his blog, adding it is still considering the possibility to appeal the verdict.

Founded in 2005 Mininova contain approximately 1.3 million file torrents. During November, the site has surpassed the ten billion torrent files distributed to users. It remains to see how to react to the millions of visitors. Power Pack 3 of Windows Home Server

A month almost to the day after the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft finally adapts Windows Home Server operating system for home server. In addition to the usual batch of fixes and improvements, the Power Pack 3 provides the most support for many features of Windows 7.

Libraries of Windows 7, to accommodate the personal data of users are now supported. A user can then easily store data on a shared folder on a Windows Home Server. It is also possible to automate backups of a computer running Windows 7 on such a server, programming exit and return to standby for this purpose, for a daily backup at night for example.

Windows Media Center is no exception as Windows Home Server can archive recorded TV by transcoding on the fly if necessary for playback on a computer or a digital music player. Search Windows password length version 4, with all that that implies, improved performance in support of encrypted files.

Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 will be published tomorrow in several languages including French. It requires the previous Power Pack and install automatically through Windows Update if necessary.

Asus G51J 3D: A 3D Vision-enabled mobile

With G51J 3D Asus max out what some see as the leading trend of 2010: the display in '3 D ', or rather creating a relief effect to the image through the use with stereoscopic glasses. For this first attempt, Asus leans on the Vision 3D technology from NVIDIA. The portable 15.6-inch format, then loads a GeForce graphics card and a 120Hz LCD panel, so you can view turn images for each eye.

G51J The 3D is built around an Intel Core i7 920 (1.6 GHz to 2.8 GHz with the TurboBooster) with 4 GB of DDR3 memory and two hard drives of 500 GB Part video provided by a GeForce GTX 260M with 1 GB of dedicated video memory. We also found a Blu-ray combo, and a 2.0 megapixel webcam. In other words, the exact configuration of G51J tested at our section dedicated to mobile Core i7 is enriched with a slab compatible with the 3D Vision. It displays a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

It remains to see how this configuration, muscular for a laptop but below a desktop player, will perform the additional calculations induced by the use of 3D stereoscopic and which will therefore actual performance in. The machine is expected in early December at a price of 1699 euro, price includes NVIDIA 3D glasses Vision.

Connected to Office and Twitter, Linkedin Opens its APIs

With its 52 million members, the social network Linkedin professional dimension will increase its attraction through the introduction of programming interfaces (APIs) designed to enable developers to design applications capable of use data stored by the service. By opening the doors for its databases and enhancing opportunities for interaction with them, Linkedin intends to attract new users, attracted by these new applications.

The ten API is currently available primarily to manage the identification of constraints to service, upgrade or sending information and communication opportunities between members, but also looking for specific profiles. Others should follow in the near future, said Linkedin, according to fifteen minutes just to get a working code.

This announcement comes just days after two other major promises: the ability to link their profile to their Twitter account, so that the former be updated as soon as you use the second, and integration with Office 2010 via "connectors "that is putting up Microsoft.

Like Facebook, like Twitter, Linkedin is the choice of opening, so as to strengthen its online presence and in different software environments used by the Internet. One of the first applications to take advantage of the extension of this strategy should be the Twitter client TweetDeck available on iPhone as on Mac or PC, which allows access from a single interface to different social networks. Linkedin is now the number.

Bing hard to convince Europe

Quiet almost flat on the monthly barometer of search engines AT Internet Institute. Google enjoyed a clear lead in Europe, while Bing does not know the same progression as the United States.

In the U.S., the search engine Bing Microsoft approach below 10% market share with a steady increase since its official launch last June. In Europe, Bing has no time for such a trajectory. But after all this is hardly surprising, because for the Old Continent is still a beta version of Bing is proposed, probably still too strong Live Search to change some ingrained habits.

On October passed, the situation has changed little or not, with Google, which still captures the essential research in Europe. In any case, the finding for the four countries of the barometer of AT Internet Institute: the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and France. In France, the market share of Google is 88.4%. Bing far but follows with 3.9% and Yahoo! with 2.7%.

Windows 8 scheduled for 2012

While Steve Ballmer is pleased with the reception at Windows 7 and the first sales figures, Microsoft is already thinking about his successor. All in all logic and the last conference for developers who just happened to Los Angeles in the United States, was also an opportunity to confirm that a new operating system is expected within three years.

While some speculate the end of the world in 2012, unconnected Microsoft plans for 2012 the output of an OS, code-named Windows 8. The product cycle between Windows Vista and Windows 7 should be extended according to the roadmap of the Redmond company. This should have been the case with Windows XP and Vista, but we know that three years have finally been almost doubled. We can not swear to anything.

A road map distributed to partners and with Microsoft Kitchen published a copy (above). However, Microsoft did not say a word about Windows 8, while its CEO has recently attempted to dispel any rumors of a more modular OS. Rest of the indices from a few leaks on the Web, including information posted on the LinkedIn profile of an employee of Microsoft Research.

Robert Morgan has said work in the Research and Development of Microsoft's conduct projects in the medium and long term, which is compatible with the 128-bit architecture for the core Windows 8 and 9. In this sense, a collaboration was initiated with partners like Intel, AMD, HP and IBM.

Nvidia Makes Pixel Processing Pipeline Faster

Nvidia has been awarded with a new patent for an invention that makes the pixel processing pipeline faster and more efficient.

With U.S. Patent no. 7609272, the company hit a major milestone ? 1,000 patents. The new patent helps the shader process textures in a way that makes full use of any extra circuits, speeding up output, according to AMD's Hector Marinez.

"Previously, when a large texture needed to be read, one instruction would be issued, and one shader circuit would need to make several passes while other circuits sat idle. But patent authors Emmett Kilgariff and Rui Bastos ?both longtime NVIDIANS ? figured out a way to allow for a partial texture load. By breaking the texture load into smaller pieces - able to be completed in one pass each - all circuits can keep firing, Marinez explained in a blog post.

As Bastos recalls, the idea came from asking themselves, "What can we do to reduce the number of cycles required to run a program and get applications/games running faster? The key for the idea was an application of the divide-and-conquer principle."

Textures can be 32-bit, 64-bit, or 128-bit. But anything larger than 32-bit requires more than one pass. Before Bastos and Kilgariff?s invention, texture lookups were monolithic instructions that took multiple cycles to be executed, leaving other shader functional units to sit idle. "The idle units in the pipe presented the opportunity to try to fit other, non-texture instructions in those slots ? i.e., run more than one instruction per cycle," says Bastos. But to do that, the monolithic texture-load instructions had to be split into chunks. Break a 128-bit texture into four pieces ? each of which can be completed in one pass ? and that lets one cycle-hungry instruction be broken into four instructions. Doing this means that other circuits keep processing instructions ? no more waiting.

In addition, Kilgariff and Bastos discovered they could reorder instructions for greater efficiency. For instance, if a texture for instruction 1 is not immediately available, the shader circuit could get to work on instruction 2. Instructions don?t back up in a queue.

By providing for partial texture loads and reordering instruction sequences for greater efficiency, Kilgariff and Bastos found they could reduce the number of required passes. Ultimately, textures render faster and game play is more seamless.

The invention made its way to the market in 2004 in the GeForce 6 family of products. It also featured in the RSX ? or Reality Synthesizer ? GPU that NVIDIA co-developed for the Sony PlayStation 3.

Microsoft, News Corp. Talk On Partnership

News Corp. has held talks with Microsoft on a partnership that may result in News Corp. removing its newspaper content from Google's search engine, according to media reports Monday.

The talks included that News Corp. gets paid from Microsoft to take its news websites off Google. News Corp, which owns papers such as the Wall Street Journal of the United States and the Sun of UK, started the discussions. News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch has said he wants to make people pay for access to his news websites.

The talks are still at a very early stage and may not result in a deal, according to people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal said.

While such a deal with Microsoft would be another way for News Corp. to get paid for its newspaper content, the company would risk losing a huge audience if its stories weren't available to Google users.

"We believe search engines are of real benefit to newspapers, driving valuable traffic to their Web sites and connecting them with new readers around the world," said Gabriel Stricker, a Google spokesman. Stricker declined to comment directly on the talks between Microsoft and News Corp.

Acer Liquid S100 Review

Acer Liquid (S100) will be released tentatively in February next year, with an updated version of the OS (Android 2.0), with some nice chips (such as activated navigation from Navitel in addition to Google Maps), and costs less than 20 thousand rubles. Based on the success of this unit the company would adjust strategy on the priorities in the choice of OS, I think Android will be clearly preferable.

Acer Liquid (S100) Features
  • Network: GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), WCDMA / HSDPA (850/1900/2100 MHz),

  • Dimensions: 115 x 62.5 x 12.5 mm
  • Weight: 135 g
  • Home sales in Russia: January 2010

Design

Acer S100 Liquid is made in the form factor of the classical candy bar, it is the most popular manner. There is no sliding QWERTY-keyboard, through which the device got a thin, comfortable. Thickness for a powerful communicator with a top-end filling is remarkable - only 12.5 mm, it is the slimmest Android today. Corners slightly oblique, that is visually leaner machine. Color solutions will be available three, classic black and white and red. We visited last option, the color of solutions differs only bezel and rear surface, while the front panel is always black.

Communicator looks very good, it is stylish, original, life looks much better than in photographs. Case is similar to the Acer neoTouch S200, but in reality the differences are many. First, the quality of plastic - a material Liqid better, more expensive and more practical. Plastic silver light, it is not noticeable fingerprints, build quality is also better. Secondly, the front panel is a continuous sheet of solid glass, scratch-resistant. No joints, the keys under the screen - touch (capacitive technology).

The rear panel is now not completely removed, and the mount is more reliable, as a result there are no squeaks. On the back of the camera lens is located (5 megapixel, it is the same as in the S200, only without the flash), the speaker. The memory card slot is located under the lid, which is not too convenient.

Controls are made controversial, this touch pad below the screen, which looks very stylish, but takes some getting used to using. Set traditional: Menu, Home, Search, and Return. Pressing the touch keys are confirmed by vibration, so that the management is quite intuitive. Naturally, the keys have a backlight, it is bright and uniform. In addition to these buttons are present and the mechanical power button on the left, volume control and camera.

As it should be, there is a 3.5 mm audio connector (top) and mini-USB plug at the bottom. The latter supports Mass Storage, so Acer S100 can be connected to a computer without drivers. With regard to 3.5 mm, the sound model is quite good, at HTC Hero and some other communicators, and thus, like the majority of users. Naturally, you need to understand that specialized multimedia devices (eg, Nokia N97) sound better, but the difference is not huge.

Incidentally, the top end displays different icons: new message, charging is one of the chip device. Looks all very nice and original.

Screen

The main part of the front surface is the screen, screen size 3.5 inches, it has the physical size and aspect ratio just like the Apple iPhone, but much better in resolution, quality, level of brightness. Interestingly, the Acer S200 neoTouch screen has a size of 3.8 inches with the same dimensions of the apparatus, but the display in S100 Liquid does not seem small at the expense of highly detailed design, design of the front panel. The screen is not recessed into the body, means finger control, screen technology - capacitive, ie, the stylus is not provided. The screen is protected by a scratch-resistant glass fiber (scratch-resistant surface), it is not a thin film, as in resistive screens.

Sensitivity is good, excellent screen responds to finger. What is bad - no multitouch, and is unlikely to appear, although I would like. I liked very much the quality of the screen, the brightness level. Through this resolution the image looks smooth, no complaints. Very well traced icons and other elements, fonts, interface looks neat and handsome. Above the screen is a light sensor, front camera for videophone and proximity sensor.

Communications

Acer Liquid based on the platform Qualcomm QSD8250. Processor Codename Scorpion, it is similar in performance Cortex-A8, which is used in the much-talked smartphone Nokia N900 in Maemo 5. Chipset includes wireless modules, as well as graphics accelerator with a capacity of 22 million polygons per second. Last will in future receive the schedule of a fundamentally new level, although today the combination with a powerful processor provides a good gain in the "heavy" applications, such as in the emulator Playstation.

In the future, optimization under Snapdragon will provide a significant increment not only in complex games, but in the video. For example, Acer liquid and Acer neoTouch S200, we see that Snapdragon may have other, different from the 1 GHz frequency. Thus, in Liquid frequency is 768 MHz, while all other parameters remained the same chipset. Compare performance of Android and Windows Mobile makes no sense, except to say that Liquid works shustro, no complaints. The only pity is that there is no pre DivX Codec for video, watch unconverted video does not work, but for Android so far is a third-party applications. Video, "understands" the apparatus, of course, revolves without problems.

The device is designed to work in networks GSM 850/900/1800/1900, support GPRS / EDGE, plus 3G. The latter, however, has no relevance to all regions of Russia. Wireless communication module represented Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), as well as Wi-Fi. They work quite well, no complaints. In Acer Liquid Wi-Fi is certified DLNA, there is the possibility of wireless access to content (Video, Photo, Music), the exchange with the media servers and other functions of the standard.

A2DP is implemented perfectly - the sound of a loud, high-quality, communication is not interrupted. The only pity is that when the connection channel sound does not stop, automatically activates the built-in speaker. In addition it supports the following profiles Bluetooth:
  • File Transfer - Generic Access
  • Generic Object Exchange
  • Handsfree
  • Headset
  • HID
  • Object Push
  • Personal Area Networking
  • Serial Port
  • A2DP
  • Audio / Video Remote Control
  • SAP (SIM card access profile)

No FM-tuner, this is that the restriction for the Android-smartphone. Memory functions in the unit standard for Android, in the presence of 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM,

The implementation of GPS at a good level, one bright afternoon apparatus "saw" six or seven satellites. Cartography noteworthy, Acer S100 will be completed with navigation Navitel in addition to Google Maps. That's good, above all, a full turn-by-turn navigation and detailed maps, which are stored in the memory of the device, they do not have to constantly download from the network and spend money for GPRS-traffic. But until that issue is not solved exactly, before the apparatus is the order of time.

Camera

Camera in Acer S100 standard for the platform, 5 megapixel, autofocus, no flash. In the future, only the flagship of Sony Ericsson will be quality camera with a maximum capacity, while others are deprived of the Android. So, using CMOS-sensor, maximum resolution of the image is 2592x1944 pixels, aperture ratio of 1:2.8, focal length 5.2. Application starts shooting fast enough, it takes less than a second.

Interface traditionally Landscape and very simple, on-screen in the viewfinder displays the selected items (permit shooting, ISO, white balance) and the band zooming. Miscellaneous settings a bit, including:
  • choice of resolution (5 megapixel, 3 megapixel, 2 megapixel, Full HD 1920x1080, 1,3 Mp, WVGA 800x480)
  • selection effect (mono, negative, sepia, overexposure, Posterize, water)
  • adjust the brightness and contrast (from 0 to 10)
  • White Balance (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent)
  • Configuring ISO (100, 200, 400, 800, automatic)
  • JPEG quality setting
Interface

Acer Liquid S100 administered version of the OS Android 1.6, although not so long ago was presented to Android 2.0 (Eclair). Asked whether the update is available, the company replied in the affirmative, so that probably Liquid goes on sale in January from the second version of the OS. When this happens, we will tell about the Android 2.0, changes from previous versions. Interface Liquid - is a basic Android with minimal customization. Against the background completely reworked menu HTC Hero or LG GW620 it looks a little disadvantage, still design quite ascetic.

In particular, a set of icons, elements of the system, the virtual keyboard, and so coincide with other smartphones, they do not always look good or comfortable. Plus the fact that you can adjust the vibration when you press the keys, the sound (in the rest of the menu screen there is no vibration). In the setting of the keyboard there is a dictionary, word completion and options. In the vertical orientation of the keyboard is not very easy to use, if an error occurs in the horizontal due to the size of buttons, everything is fine.

Desk traditional for Android, you can change the background color, plus make a lot of links, shortcuts, and widgets. Menu button calls the virtual screen, the same way rolled back. At the top of the screen is a list of notifications, and a list of open applications displayed when hovering the menu keys. A separate key is the search string in Google and keyboard key is completely useless, but ideologically necessary for Android-devices.

Be that as it may, the company still have a additions. Working Tables three, and the other two widgets are multimedia and browser. They are from a carousel of thumbnails that scroll your finger vertically: the picture in the gallery, videos, music albums on one desktop and the saved web page to another. Not too functional additions, but it looks good, comfortable in its essence. Click on the picture, you can immediately switch to its view in the gallery, respectively, and can do with your MP3 player. In addition to the stuff on each screen, as usual, you can make a standard for Android labels, folders and other widgets.

Another useful addition the firm - widget management of wireless connections, which helps to quickly enable or disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Auto sync and so on. Are also pleased that in the presence of a complete set of services Google, including catalog applications Market.

Browser - one of the strengths of Android. He is comfortable and functional, the other platform envy. There is everything necessary, including flash and the so-called gears. You can block pop-ups, there AutoFit formatting perfectly handled Java, there are no problems with encodings.

Gallery also does not disappoint. Sort by folders, accessible basic editing options, there is a slide show. Unfortunately, as in the browser, it's not supported by the multi-touch. But is not actually gone in motion sensor, which changes the screen orientation, depending on the position of the shell.

In the device pre-installed office suite: Documents ToGo, designed for viewing and editing (in the case of buying the full version of the program) documents Word, Excel, presentations and so on. Options standard required set available.

MP3 Player

In Acer Liquid present two player (both video and MP3, plus an alternative gallery). Traditional for Android 1.6 player is simple, there is sorting by artist, songs, albums, plus play-lists. Album Cover larger than her on-screen controls are displayed, the band play - all standard. Equalizers and any sound settings in the device is not, this restriction Android.

Own player Acer (it's called nemoPlayer) much more beautiful, more comfortable, and I advise them to use. In fact, this application provides access to MP3, video, and photos simultaneously, at the top are three large icons to switch between these categories. In the case of playing MP3 album art is displayed almost the entire screen, it looks great.

Conclusion

The only problem, which is the case with the Acer Liquid - this time out. The device will be available only in January, when it will be the main competitor in the market for several months, and the price of it will fall even more. This is HTC Hero, the most balanced Android-smartphone now and one of the best in the coming year. Acer Liquid (S100) is far ahead of Hero of the specifications, in particular, then the first processor for Android Qualcomm Snapdragon, great display 800x480 pixels, and all that is offered at minimum price. very functional and interesting models of notebooks at attractive prices made the company name and brought to market leadership, and the same method the manufacturer uses and for communicators. I am sure it will work. Even later time-Acer Liquid remain the most accessible Android-smartphone with such functionality

Google published the source code of Chrome OS

Tonight, Google held a press conference awaited regarding its next operating system called OS chrome. Announced in early July, Chrome OS is based on a Linux kernel which will be added a windowed interface relatively minimalist. The system is primarily designed for netbooks.

Sundar Pichai, vice president of product development at Google, begins by returning to the path of the Google browser Chrome introduced in September 2008. It states: "Google Chrome is the foundation of everything we do here" before adding: "40 million people use Chrome as a primary browser on their machines. Thanks to its JavaScript engine Chrome is 39 times faster than Internet Explorer. The Mac version is still under development and will be published soon, same thing with regard Chrome for Linux, which is also the main foundation for Chrome OS.

Like the browser, Chrome OS is based on three ideas: speed, simplicity and security. Note and all applications in OS will Chrome web applications. "He 'is not necessary to install anything, this is a browser change," Mr Pichai said. Since these online services all data is hosted remotely, support for the HTML5 for its share of operations caching. In case of loss of the netbook user should be able to buy another machine, identify and instantly find all their favorite applications which are listed in a special page configurable by the user.

Once opened, the application will be placed in a dedicated tab but can also be lodged in a small panel at the bottom right of the screen. In this sense, Google takes the idea of the chat module or task list implemented in Gmail. Mr Pichai said that developers have built a virtual office, ie the ability to have multiple main windows and then lists a number of open tabs.

When the user connects a digital camera, the system opens a small window listing the images, which can then be placed in different tabs. Google also admits that the suite of hosted Microsoft is particularly efficient for this reason, if the user receives via email a file in Excel, it opens in Office Online. If that fails, the system would be capable of throwing itself a self-repair.

Note however that the operating system is compatible with the netbook with an SSD memory. Furthermore it is not possible to install OS Chrome on an existing machine, the user should first invest in a netbook OS on which Chrome is pre-installed. The firm in Mountain View is currently in discussion with various partners to support a greater number of network adapters.

For industry, the challenge of an OS made in Google seems a foregone conclusion. Indeed, a few days after the announcement of Chrome OS Sundar Pichai, vice president of product development at Google, explained that the Mountain View company had already signed several distribution partnerships with various OEM manufacturers. Among them we find Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Toshiba. By the end of the first machines with Chrome OS should see the day, "just before Christmas," said Sundar Pichai.

The general enthusiasm is also not to please everyone, starting with some other Linux vendors. Thus Mandriva had responded directly to the announcement of Google in a statement recalling that the company is a "leading European publishers of open source distributions. (S) latest Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring goes beyond the requirements of current users of netbooks (...) and adapts to all individuals and businesses. ". When questioned by us on this, Anne Nicolas Vice President of Engineering at Red Hat, explained: "They can get their technology simply communicating. They have many popular products. It has to occupy the field and react. "

Google has also released the source code of Chrome OS to developers on the official website of Chromium.

Hardware

It was also announced that Chrome OS would use only solid state memory.
As expected,  not all news on the hardware front is good. Largely because all the focus is on software for now. To get it working, you will have to buy a new machine.
