3D Building Maker Added to Google Earth

ew to the Google 3D family. The Mountain View giant has just put online a service modeling 3D buildings, inspired by the free Google SketchUp. Google Building Maker shall, once is not customary to use the power of community to accelerate the development of Google Earth's 3D mapping software.

Based on the Google Maps interface (aerial mapping), Google Building Maker allows first to select where do modeling. Currently fifty cities are available, but Google hopes "to add others as soon as possible." The blue areas indicate buildings already modeled. To align the volumes (boxes, prisms, pyramids and other) on the photos, the tool offers various aerial views of the building. The textures are then applied automatically. After a quick preview, it only remains to record the creation in the store 3D image of Google (Google 3D Warehouse), the upgrade in SketchUp, if necessary, and wait about a week to see appear in Google Earth .

Besides the appearance and free online service, Google Building Maker is part of the strategy UGC (content generated by users) from Google. One way for the company to accelerate development of tools (in this case, mapping the world) through an army of "volunteers".

Microsoft Releases Critical Security Patches

The new operating system from Microsoft will be marketed as October 22 but has already been made available to many users, especially students of schools joining the MSDN Academic Alliance program. So far spared, Windows 7 is concerned with two of them critical vulnerabilities affecting Internet Explorer 8 and the environment. NET programming. These vulnerabilities also affect other versions of Windows allow an attacker to take remote control of a computer that has not been updated.

Other fixes involve one or more versions of Windows and are marked critical or important. The vulnerabilities allow for the most part to execute code remotely, others to obtain elevated privileges (become a director), others allow a denial of service.

SANDISK announced First Flash Memory Cards With 64 Gigabit X4 with Nand Flash Technology

SanDisk has begun production shipments of flash memory cards based on the company's X4 flash memory technology, which holds four bits of data in each memory cell, twice as many as the cells in conventional multi-level cell (MLC) NAND (2-bits-per-cell) memory chips.

Based on 43-nanometer (nm) process technology, the 64-gigabit (Gb) NAND flash chip is the highest-density single-die memory device in the world to enter production. SanDisk is shipping 8 gigabyte (GB)1 and 16GB SDHC cards as well as 8GB and 16GB Memory Stick PRO Duo™ cards using X4 technology.

"The development and commercialization of X4 technology represents an important milestone for the flash storage industry," said Sanjay Mehrotra, president and chief operating officer, SanDisk. "Our challenge with X4 technology was to not only deliver the lower costs inherent to 4-bits-per-cell, but to do so while meeting the reliability and performance requirements of industry standard cards that employ MLC NAND. Our world-class design and engineering team has applied its deep experience with high speed 2 and 3-bits-per-cell flash chip designs and collaborated closely with our leading design partners to develop and perfect new and powerful error correction algorithms to assure reliable operation. This intensive multi-year effort has generated powerful new patents and know-how, and demonstrates SanDisk's relentless drive for innovations that result in the ever expanding use of flash storage in consumer applications such as music, videos, photos, games and numerous third party applications."

"The shipment of 4-bits-per-cell technology is a necessary evolution for the industry," said Joseph Unsworth, research director, Gartner. "Enabling this technology in mainstream products demonstrates a cost advantage in the flash memory industry that considers 2-bits-per-cell in a memory device as standard. The NAND industry continues to see a rapid pace of innovation, and adoption of this technology will be essential to remain competitive."

Tel Aviv University (TAU) had provided a significant contribution to the X4 advanced error correcting and digital signal processing technology, which was licensed exclusively to SanDisk by Ramot at Tel Aviv University Ltd., TAU's technology transfer company. "X4 took five years of development at SanDisk, and the finished product is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of the parties involved," said Dr. Ze'ev Weinfeld, Ramot's CEO. "Once we created the basic approach, SanDisk brought this to fruition by developing its advanced X4 controller and matching it with its advanced 43nm, 64Gb X4 memory thus making full X4 product implementation possible."

Samsung 55 inches of 240Hz 3D LCD glory

Samsung -- it's pursuing the idea with some pretty hefty ambition. A 55-inch 1080p panel with a true 240Hz refresh rate is a decent base on which to build your paradigm-shifting new offering. Using a set of "shutter" glasses, which rapidly alternate between blocking out the left and right eye, the set is capable of delivering the full 240Hz quality, debatable as its benefits may be.

Swedish law Hadopi stumbles against ISPs

A Swedish appeals court overturns a court decision that forced an ISP to reveal the identity of one of its subscribers suspected of being hosted on a server for illegal content.

The law IPRED for Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive, came into force in Sweden on 1 April 2009. It is supposed to make life easier for beneficiaries who seek to confuse the user downloads or supporters of illegal trade, enabling them to more quickly obtain the identity of a subscriber hiding behind an IP address. It is also necessary that ISPs play the game

Under the law IPRED five publishers turned to a court and asked the ISP Ephone provide the identity of a subscriber whose server housed among the quantity of these audio books, 27 books in which they hold rights. But Ephone refused to comply highlighting the protection of his client and the lack of evidence provided by rights holders.

For his refusal, Epone was convicted at trial and appealed the decision. The Court of Appeal in Stockholm comes to rule and held that "proof that the server was accessible to the general public had not been made," according to information reported by AFP. A first trial but overturned the Swedish Supreme Court may be sought.

The reaction Ephone at least shows that IPRED or not, the ISP in Sweden are not willing to be as natural identity of a client working behind an IP address. This has become almost a means of promotion since the ISP Tele2, which has nearly 600 000 subscribers in Sweden, had said shortly after the entry into force of the IPRED he would "remove an IP address once they have been used internally, is seeking guarantees respect for the integrity of its customers.

VBA extends the main support Office 2004

The support of Office 2004 for Mac should have ended Tuesday, October 13, 2009, but Microsoft has finally decided to give a broad period of grace to this productivity suite. The main support has been extended until January 10, 2012. An extension that will have no impact on Microsoft's policy on the matter, with other products for Mac (and future) still affected by a main support for a period of five years.

If Office 2004 for Mac has a special diet, it is because of Visual Basic for Applications that enables you to develop macros for Office applications. The implementation of the Visual Basic language has in fact been done in Office 2008 for Mac, the latest version currently marketed. But VBA is cons indeed present in Office 2004 for Mac that has prompted a number of users not migrated to version 2008.

This new deadline of January 10, 2012 has been chosen to "ensure the continuity of a cross-platform compatibility for Office 2004 customers depend on VBA to support VBA in the next version of 'Office for Mac, "he said Microsoft.

Scheduled for the end of 2010 the United States, the next version of Office for Mac would therefore sign the return of VBA. Entourage will be replaced by a version of Outlook for Mac fully developed in Cocoa, a new database for faster access will be proposed with support of backup Time Machine and Spotlight search feature.
