Nvidia Ready to Enter The DirectX 11 Gaming With Upcoming 40nm GT300 GPU

Nvidia lagged behind rival AMD in the introduction of a Direct X 11 GPU but it seems that the company is ready to make an impressive come back with the upcoming GT300 chip, which bloggers already describe as a "computational beast".

Nvidia's upcoming 40nm GPU codenamed "Fermi" or simpler "GT300" is slated for a Q4 2009 launch, meaning that it will most probably show up around the end of November.

Rumors about the new chip indicate that it will pack a lot of architectural changes compared to Nvidia's GT200 generation of GPUs.

Manufactured by TSMC, the 40nm chip is expected to pack three billion transistors and 16 Streaming Multiprocessor (former Shader Cluster). Each multiprocessor has 32 cores, with each core to be able to execute an integer or a floating point instruction per clock per thread.

The chip also packs six 64-bit GDDR5 memory controllers for a grand total of 384-bit, matching AMD's current offering with the Radeon HD 5800 series.

Possible configurations of the new boards should include 1.5, 3.0 GB and 6GB of GDDR5 memory.

Of course, the GT300 gives direct hardware access for CUDA 3.0, DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1 and OpenCL.

Nvidia should have been very busy with the design of the new architecture fir the GT300 chip. According to early reports, the chip will be more than three times more powerful than the GT200 GPU.

Nvidia has made an official statement on the state of the GT300 yields last week, after some stories online reported that the GT300 yields were bad, with only nine chips to work per wafer. An Nvidia' product manager said that the company's 40nm yields were "fine" and described the information as "baseless."

It seems that the complicated design of the new GT300 chip was the reason behind the "late" introduction of the chip in the market. AMD has already made a strong statement with the release of its Radeon HD5800 series but Nvidia believes that they can make its DirectX 11 GPU even faster.

All we have to do is to wait to see if the GT300 can outperform the HD 5870, HD 5850X2 and the HD 5870X2 chips, in a very interesting race in the GPU market.

Microsoft Releases Security Essentials Anti-malware Software

Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft's new anti-malware service that helps protect consumers against viruses, spyware and other malicious software, is finally available for download today for free.

Microsoft Security Essentials, independently certified by West Coast Labs, requires no registration, trials or renewals and is available for download directly from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials.

"Consumers have told us that they want the protection of real-time security software but we know that too many are either unwilling or unable to pay for it, and so end up unprotected," said Amy Barzdukas, general manager for consumer security at Microsoft. "With Microsoft Security Essentials, consumers can get high-quality protection that is easy to get and easy to use - and it won't get in their way."

By making Microsoft Security Essentials easy to get and easy to use, Microsoft hopes to encourage broader adoption of anti-virus protection across the consumer audience, which in turn will help increase security across the entire Windows ecosystem. For business customers, Microsoft continues to offer Forefront Client Security.

The software is designed to run quietly in the background alerting users only when there is an action for them to take. It also limits CPU and memory usage, resulting in less impact on the tasks consumers perform every day such as opening documents or browser windows or loading search results, even on older or less powerful PCs. Microsoft Security Essentials uses real-time protection to help prevent PCs from becoming infected, and it is the first Microsoft security product to make use of the company's new Dynamic Signature Service, a technology that helps ensure users stay protected by the most current virus definitions available without having to wait for the next scheduled download.

"Microsoft is focused on the challenges that prevent consumers from running up-to-date anti-virus software today, particularly in emerging markets where there is a growing prevalence of malware," said Jon Crotty, security analyst at IDC. "With Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft is helping to reduce some of the barriers that constrain consumers from running AV."

Microsoft Security Essentials is available for Windows XP SP2 or SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 including Windows XP mode on both x32 and x64 PCs. It will be available in eight languages and 19 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. More information about Microsoft Security Essentials and the product download is available at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials.

LG GD510 unveiled Touchscreen Phone

LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, the LG GD510, or more simply, “Pop”, the most compact 3-inch full touchscreen phone ever made. The LG GD510 is the handset people who want a simple touchscreen phone have been waiting for.

LG has been one of the industry’s leading innovators in touchscreen phones since it launched the world’s first full touchscreen phone, PRADA Phone by LG, in January 2007. Since then, the company has achieved great success in the touchscreen devices market by creating an array of handsets designed to meet different consumer needs. For instance, LG’s Cookie (KP500) is an affordable full touchscreen phone that has already sold more than 7 million units worldwide since its launch earlier this year. With the LG GD510, LG is applying its tried and true strategy to another new model – this time, to a compact full touchscreen handset.

LG’s consumer research showed that a large group of consumers wanted the functionality of a full touchscreen phone without the extra bulk and unnecessary features that resulted in higher prices. According to the research, many users were also put off by the complexity of feature-laden phones but still desired the easier navigation and larger screens of full touchscreen phones. The LG GD510 was designed to include the key features these users craved, without the overhead of features they didn’t use.

“We gave the LG GD510 an optimized feature set which allowed us to concentrate on making the phone more compact and simpler to use,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our high-end phones like the Black Label Series New LG Chocolate (LG BL40) may be getting all the attention but there’s a gap in the market for affordable touchscreen phones that we want to fill. The LG GD510 delivers all the essentials in communication, multimedia and entertainment and comes in a compact form factor as well.”

Fully fluent in multimedia, the LG GD510 plays music and movies in several popular file formats and 8 gigabytes of internal memory provides plenty of room for storing large collections. An easy-to-use browser brings all the best mobile content to the device’s large screen and a 3.0 megapixel camera captures high quality photos and videos for sharing online or sending wirelessly to friends.

The spacious 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen extends almost to the edges of the LG GD510 with a narrow 4.8 mm bezel giving the illusion of an uninterrupted sheet of glass. The unit’s sleek design is accented by a single button on the face that functions as the menu, end and cancel keys, depending on the phone’s mode. A slim strip of light around the button shines either green or red to indicate the handset’s function. The LG GD510 is crafted from brushed aluminum which gives it a high-end look and feels solid in the hand even when squeezed.

LG GD510 will be available beginning in mid-October in Europe, followed by other markets. Prices will vary country-to-country and will be announced separately in each individual market.

SAP Offers 'free' CRM for ERP Buyers

SAP said this week that midsize companies that purchase the Business All-in-One suite or SAP ERP will also receive its CRM (customer relationship management) application.

The offer comes with a catch, however. Customers will get the CRM licenses at no charge, but must pay annual maintenance costs on them, a spokesman said.

In addition, companies must buy at least 15 "application professional" and 15 "application limited professional" licenses for the ERP (enterprise resource planning) applications. The offer is available until Dec. 18.

Business All-in-One is one of three lower-end ERP product lines sold by SAP beyond its flagship ERP application. It also markets Business One, which is for small companies, and is mounting an incremental rollout of Business ByDesign, an on-demand suite with a wide range of functional modules.

SAP's CRM discount offer is no doubt an effort to shore up slumping license sales amid the dismal economy. But it could also be an indication that customers aren't pleased with Business All-in-One's native CRM functionality, which SAP added in May 2008, said 451 Group analyst China Martens.

Overall, though, SAP's announcement was just the latest move this week by a major vendor to court midmarket customers.

Microsoft announced it had purchased a range of industry-centric technologies from partners to help it boost the vertical capabilities of its Dynamics AX ERP suite, and Oracle made a fistful of product and strategy announcements aimed at midmarket customers, including a new portal, midsize.oracle.com.

These concurrent events are no accident, given the vendors' fierce competition for these customers, not only from each other but SaaS (software as a service) pureplays such as NetSuite and Salesforce.com.

Vendors realize "that growth will have to come from the midmarket. It's a greenfield of companies with legacy or no ERP systems. The midmarket is the future," said Altimeter Group analyst Ray Wang.

While vendors have certainly made some headway into the segment -- Oracle's announcement claimed it had grown its midmarket customer base by 7,000 in the past three years -- many midsized companies are slow to adopt new software.

An Aberdeen Research study issued in August found that only 28 percent of 313 respondents were on the latest release of their ERP system. Thirty-one percent were one release behind, 13 percent were two behind, and 13 percent were still three versions back or more, according to the study.

IRS Scam Now World's Biggest E-mail Virus Problem

Criminals are waging a nasty online campaign right now, hoping that their victims' fears of the tax collecter will lead them to inadvertently install malicious software.

The spam campaign, entering its third week now, is showing no signs of slowing down, according to Gary Warner, director of research in computer forensics with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This one campaign accounts for about 10 percent of the spam e-mail that his group is presently tracking, he said. "This is the most prominent spam-delivered virus in the world right now," he said.

Since first spotting the spam on Sept. 9, antispam vendor Cloudmark has counted 11 million messages sent to the company's nearly 2 million desktop customers, said Jamie Tomasello, abuse operations manager with Cloudmark. That number is "very high," she noted.

The messages typically have a subject line that reads, "Notice of Underreported Income," and they encourage victims to either install the Trojan attachment or click on a Web link in order to view their "tax statement." In fact, that link takes the victim to a malicious Web site.

The IRS says not to open attachments or click on links included in e-mail that claims to come from the tax-collection agency.

What makes this campaign particularly ugly is that the malware that accompanies the fake IRS messages is a variant of the hard-to-detect Zeus Trojan. This software hacks into bank accounts and drains them of money as part of a widespread financial fraud scheme. Researchers estimate that the Zeus criminals are emptying more than a million dollars per day out of victims' bank accounts with the software. Small businesses have been particularly hard-hit by this fraud, because banks have sometimes held them accountable for the losses.

Testing a recent variant of Zeus on the VirusTotal Web site, Warner found that only five of the 41 antivirus detection systems used by VirusTotal managed to spot it.

Although antivirus vendors have other techniques for blocking the malware -- they can stop people from visiting the malicious Web sites, for example -- the spam is giving the companies a run for their money.

"It's difficult to stay ahead of it via antivirus because the Zeus binaries are changing a few times a day to evade detection," said Paul Ferguson, a researcher with Trend Micro, via instant message. "It's definitely a problem."

Radeon HD 5870: AMD's first DirectX 11 review

After a splendid return to the front of the stage with its Radeon HD 4000 series, a true return is unexpected, AMD is now proposing its new generation of graphics chips, the first DirectX 11, with the Radeon HD 5870.

The former founder of Sunnyvale, which bought it several years ago the Canadian ATI gives launched hostilities with the launch of the first DirectX 11 GPU. A month before the release of Windows 7, the new operating system from Microsoft, AMD is therefore the first graphics cards DirectX 11 compatible.

Unlike DirectX 10, DirectX 11 is certainly built into Windows 7, but it will be available separately for download for Windows Vista. This precision made, we can return to the Radeon HD 5800 launched today by AMD, so ahead of its competitor NVIDIA ... always.

For the launch, AMD offers a range consists of the Radeon HD 5850 and Radeon HD 5870, two graphics cards upscale. This last model that will occupy us in the pages that follow. After a Radeon HD 4870 already distinguished fast and also support DirectX 11, what should we expect the performance of the Radeon HD 5870? What is changing its architecture? What about consumption? So many issues we address in this test of the Radeon HD 5870.

Before proceeding to a detailed review of the architectural changes proposed by the Radeon HD 5870, we must naturally return to DirectX 11. For memory is the DirectX API, so the software library, developed by Microsoft and allows programmers to video games to access different functions of the graphics chip. Thanks to DirectX, all graphics cards speak the same language, and developer of video games has more to worry about the specifics of each.

In the past, each new version of DirectX introduced the major features that are generally reflected by a level of realism significantly higher than a generation gaming to the next. However, since DirectX 9.0, it must be noted that realism has not increased dramatically while the number of shares operator DirectX 10 is reduced .... There are thirty of DirectX 10 games have emerged since 2006 ... The fault that Microsoft chose to reserve its DirectX only operating system Windows Vista, a largely ignored by players. With DirectX 11, we said in the introduction, Microsoft did not repeat his mistake since the new API version is certainly built into Windows 7 by default, but will be soon available as a download additional Windows Vista (but not Windows XP). What motivated game developers to make the effort to bring their securities under DirectX 11.

While each version of DirectX was compatible with previous generations of graphics chips, Microsoft had shown disruptive with DirectX 10. In fact, DirectX 10 only runs on DirectX 10 graphics chip and all the code from previous versions of DirectX has been deleted. For compatibility reasons, Windows Vista was proposed course with DirectX 10 of course, but also DirectX 9.0. Again, Microsoft does not commit the same mistake. DirectX 11 is compatible with the graphics hardware DirectX 10.1 and DirectX 10 though of course its features will be limited

The new DirectX 11

Among the new DirectX 11 offers several improvements including the introduction of Shader Model 5.0, the new version of the programming language of the bullet. For the first time DirectX provides a greater degree of parallelism since the API is now able to take advantage of the various cores of your processor. The game programmed in DirectX, the DirectX runtime, but also the DirectX driver can now run in separate processes. Moreover, some tasks can run in parallel as loading a texture and a shader compiler while the main graphics rendering takes place in his thread.

The pipeline graphics processing DirectX has also been revised to offer two new types of shaders, but also support new data types. New shaders allow to operate for the first time tessellation. This feature present in the graphics chip for the Xbox 360 and in all graphics chips from AMD Radeon HD 2000 allows to multiply, without penalty of performance, the geometric details.

The chip is indeed capable from a simple figure to apply to each subdivision polygon recursive with more geometry, the graphics are richer, more detailed. DirectX 11 includes this feature at last ... standard: good news.

It is also found in DirectX 11, and for the first time, what Microsoft calls the DirectCompute. It is to standardize the various initiatives to exploit the graphics chip as a coprocessor with a common API. DirectCompute is somehow the answer to Microsoft OpenCL. Here things get complicated, because DirectX offers three versions of DirectCompute: DirectCompute 10 (or 4.0), DirectCompute 10.1 (or 4.1) and DirectCompute 11 (or 5.0). Naturally, DirectCompute 10 runs on DirectX 10 graphics chip, DirectCompute 10.1 on chips DirectX 10.1 while DirectCompute 11 works only on DirectX 11 chip. Depending on the version of DirectCompute, the maximum number of processes, the size of shared memory or the memory available in writing vary.

Specifically, DirectCompute should allow games taking advantage of exploiting the power of the graphics chip for rendering of shadows, calculating the effects of physical or even ray tracing. The management of artificial intelligence may also benefit from DirectCompute, while any software application can use DirectX DirectCompute to go directly to the graphics chip for certain calculations. One thinks of course applications handling video files that can take advantage of the graphics chip, either AMD or NVIDIA to accelerate the encoding operations.

Various limitations were also identified with DirectX 11, while compression formats textures enriched with new settings less aggressive and more respectful of the original texture.

The graphics engine is the name given to the group of units located between the command processor, which receives instructions from the system, and the calculation units themselves which will ultimately make all our operations on pixels before mixing to send them in fine on the screen. The graphics engine has various features including the geometric unit assembly, rasterization module or unit of tessellation. Our pixels pass through this unit and can undergo several operations before being forwarded to the unit responsible for the distribution calculations in the stream processors.

Our graphics engine provides a new tessellation unit: it is the sixth generation of the technology of ATI. It is fully programmable DirectX 11 and handsel a new algorithm to reduce artifacts. In addition, AMD has a very important change with the use of stream processors to perform the interpolations. It is therefore more a function pre-wired, but a programmable function thus providing greater flexibility with a reduced impact on performance. Following the performance of the unit geometry were improved, but ATI does little more detail on this subject.

ATI offers as a calculation engine twenty SIMD processors. Each has 16 stream processors, each stream processor is composed of five units. Overall it is therefore 1600 units of calculation are available in the latest Radeon. Compared to the Radeon HD 4000, and despite the improvements made to DirectX 11 and to increase performance, ATI has always vec5 type architecture: each stream processor can work on the five components of a vector. The units of our stream processors have been revised to accommodate new features such as accelerating melting calculations multiplications / additions, or the sum of absolute differences. Some of these changes were also enacted by DirectX 11. In total, the chip offers a computing power of 2.7 teraflops in single precision and 544 GigaFLOPS double precision. And do not forget to specify that the calculation units meet the standard IEE754-2008 for all of the methods of calculation.

The texture units are increasing in number, in fact they double puisqu'ATI offers 80 units. The ratio of texture units versus units of calculation remains the same as the Radeon HD 4000 and each unit displays a higher bandwidth while the amount of cache second level has been doubled. Similarly, the bandwidth of said cache is more important. Finally, ATI has support for DirectX 11 features related to textures with a maximum resolution of 16 000 x 16 000 while the compression modes 32 and 64 bit HDR are supported.

By the way, and since it comes to textures, we should note the new algorithm for anisotropic texture filtering. This improves the video quality by eliminating the dependence of angles and without impacting performance compared to the previous algorithms the Radeon HD 4000.

The ROP units, responsible for recent operations on pixels, also benefit from improvements to some functional, others clearly oriented performance. Specifically, the ROP can be treated at the Radeon HD 5800 twice as many pixels per clock cycle than the old Radeon HD 4800. And this is normal since the number of ROP is precisely ... doubled!

Conclusion

Key points of the new Radeon HD 5870 that AMD is proposing today? First AMD manages a bang as firm Sunnyvale NVIDIA is ahead by several months by offering the first DirectX 11 graphics chip.

After this success, what is the Radeon HD 5870? With twice as many units of computing, memory bandwidth up and new functionalities to support DirectX 11, the card on paper serious advantages. Yet in fact his performance is somewhat disappointing. Force is in effect held that if the card is always at the Radeon HD 4890 and GeForce GTX 285, it rarely fails to compete with dual-GPU cards like the Radeon HD 4870 X2 or GeForce GTX 295.

There are several possible explanations and most obvious is that current games do not seem to benefit from this additional power. But beyond that, and although AMD denies it, the memory bus of the RV870 seems cramped. Limited to 256-bit memory bus bandwidth provides 33% higher than the Radeon HD 4890 with GDDR5 chips faster. But this increase seems modest when related to the doubling of computing units. And despite various optimizations made to the architecture, with a doubling of the cache or increase their bandwidth, the chip seems seriously handicapped by the absence of a 512-bit memory bus. But I bet that ATI remains some room for growth with future updates to its drivers.

While the dimensions of the card seem disproportionate, he appreciates his silence and efforts at its power consumption. We must indeed recognize that this is the graphics card upscale consuming the least idle. Moreover, the Radeon HD 5870 is now the GPU faster. Moreover, it is particularly suitable for players who have a 30 inch screen. But power has a price: AMD announces a price of 349 euros. It's expensive, and one is tempted to advise you to wait as much as the first DirectX 11 games are not expected before three months at best. As for the Radeon HD 5850, it has not yet been released by AMD and its performance remains mysterious.

Intel predicts the arrival of television in 3D

After IFA largely marked by the arrival of 3D television, some say that Intel has an easy to predict a bright future for 3D television. Yet what happened during the IDF during the third day of conference. Justin Rattner, one of the leaders of Intel, has predicted that 3D television could soon find themselves in many living rooms. To illustrate this, several demonstrations were held including an example of broadcasting live 3D. Through a pair of special glasses, assistance could play in an external 3D being filmed by a camera specific.

But the most interesting demonstration was without any doubt the short screening of a U2 concert where Bono's hand appeared out of the screen and touch the audience.

As the equipment required for filming in 3D: it is a double camera. Intel and explain that its technology Light Peak as we mentioned yesterday can replace the fifty cables shooting 3D ... one!

Intel announced Sodaville new SoC for TV

Intel took advantage of the IDF to unveil the EC 3100, his first System on a chip designed for televisions and benefiting from Intel. This year, the founder lifts the veil as expected on the EC 4100, codenamed Sodaville. All-in-one, officially called Intel Atom Processor CE 4100, this processor includes a graphics core, Intel Atom, but also features management inputs / outputs.

Engraved in 45nm, Sodaville can manage memory DDR2 or DDR3 so it can operate a dual stream video decoding of high definition sources to 1080p. Providing backward compatibility with the EC 3100, the EC sees 4100 operating frequencies of its 2D and 3D units doubled. Intel's CE 4100 intended not only to television but also to the decoders and other IPTV boxes.

Integration is the chip's strong suit. In addition to an Atom processor, the chip integrates a graphics processor, display processor, silicon for decoding for MPEG4 video, networking technology, and many of the typical connectors--such as USB and Serial ATA (SATA)--found on a PC. Intel says the chip can decode up to two 1080p video streams.

Intel is looking to catch the large wave of content moving to the Internet. Malachy Moynihan, vice president for video product strategy in the Cisco Service Provider Video Technology Group, who gave a presentation as part of Kim's keynote, said his company has now delivered 50 million set-top boxes, adding that high-resolution video, 3D graphics, and high-performance processors are becoming increasingly important as content becomes more multimedia rich.`

SocialToo Launched Anti-Virus Solution for Twitter

A worm is propagating through Twitter direct messages (DMs) trying to trick unsuspecting members into thinking it?s a legitimate message from a friend. SocialToo has a solution for that and is launching automatic anti-virus solutions for Twitter and other social networks.

Starting now, as part of a new premium service the company is offering, anyone who goes to SocialToo and checks the "Send SocialToo DM e-mails" box will no longer receive malicious DMs we detect as rampant on Twitter, as we will be stopping them at their source. For instance, the "hey. i make $300-500 a day online. this website showed me how" DMs that have been flooding the network over the last few days will automatically be deleted from your Twitter DM box and reported to Twitter?s @spam account on users'behalf. Also, the "rofl, this you on here?" DMs will never show up.

Here?s what users
need to do for it to be most effective:

- Click "Sign in With Twitter" on SocialToo.com. Click on the Preferences tab and check the box "Send SocialToo DM e-mails".
- Go to the "Settings" link in the upper-right hand corner of Twitter. Click on the "Notices" tab, and uncheck the "Direct Text E-mails" option.
- Go to the Devices tab and turn off device notifications.
Once users have done all of the above, SocialToo will now be responsible for notifying them of new DMs.

This new automatic virus detection is free until November 1st for all SocialToo users.

Nokia 3720 classic review

Nokia 3720 classic is looks like Nokia 6303 mobile phone with the exception of the camera. Here the same screen. Battery, hardware and software platform. All matches to the last detail, even the theme. The cost of these machines are also identical, so choosing between them is from a position of vulnerability, need it or not. Naturally the audience of classical, metal 6303 more, but in its segment of the 3720 classic would be the best offer.

Naturally, there are Samsung B2700 and B2100 Xplorer (already with the degree of protection IP-57, ie the possibility of immersion in water up to 10 minutes), but from the standpoint of functionality, design is a very niche offers. This level of protection needs very little, I imagine bad situations where you want to phone a long stay in the water. But nice design, the usual size and standard for this class of functionality Nokia 3720 classic is quite outweigh the bonuses protect those models. At least for most buyers it is absolutely true.

Specifications mobile phone Nokia 3720 classic:

- Networks: GSM / EDGE 900/1800/1900
- Platform: Series 40 6th Edition
- Display: 2.2-inch with a resolution of 320x240 pixels, 16M colors
- Memory: 20 MB, slot for memory cards format microSD (up to 8 GB)
- Camera: 2 megapixel, LED flash, video recording QCIF
- Communications: Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (A2DP)
- FM-radio with RDS
- Impact-resistant, dust-and waterproof
- Hours: Talk time up to 7 hours (GSM), Standby up to 408 hours
- Battery: Li-Ion 1050 mAh
- Dimensions: 115x47x15, 3 mm
- Weight: 94 g

Design

Nokia 3720 classic is very simple in design, there are no experiments with the form of housing, as in the previous secure apparatus 5500 Sport. A small, neat piece with a typical size might be a little excessive thickness. All the angles slightly rounded, due to which the phone is very conveniently placed in the hand, ergonomics are very good. The proportions of the phone practically coincide with the Nokia 6303 with the exception of thickness. The body is made mostly of hard, highly resistant to damage matte gray plastic. This material is not completely visible scrapes. And later, when they clearly will not, plastic for this model have chosen the most practical, durable. The way he does not seem expensive, but in a protected model, and it should not appear as such.

Color solutions so far, two, it's gray and yellow, and differ only in color rubber inserts, the main color models - gray. Later it will add the orange and blue color combinations look good, fit in the general style and positioning of the model.

Edging the front panel - it is stainless steel, it is dull, whole, thus edging provides extra rigidity and protects the screen. Between the lining and the plastic around the perimeter is a thin rubber insert, so that the tightness of the shell is quite assured. Side volume keys also made of rubber, without joints, they are part of the outline. Most controls do not, it was made for greater integrity.

The rear panel is fixed by screws, a standard for secure solutions. Screw is very tight, nail it to unscrew not work, just a coin. Panels made of thick plastic with rubber inserts, when tightened, the screw design is obtained very monolithic. Metal screw himself, too, a pleasant trifle. Under the hood is the battery, all the slots (for the SIM and memory card) are already under it. Camera lens is protected by plastic, no joints, it is not recessed into the body. There is also the slot dynamics and LED flash.

At the bottom there is a rubber stopper in the closed position is only available slot for charging, all other connectors (microUSB and 2.5 mm headset jack) hidden under there. Construction is common, there is a focus for the opening of the stub, it is fairly rigid, fastened to the body tightly. But often it is bending (and it will have to do every time you want to connect your headphones or cable) will eventually leak can be broken, from that no one is immune. In our crash-test, we'll check the door for reliability.

Keyboard

The keyboard apparatus is made in the general style of the phone. The buttons are made of soft plastic body with no gap, the course of their minimal. All of this - especially protected models, there do not have to rely on the maximum convenience of the keyboard, because the main task - to reduce the chance of getting into the water, dust.

The Nokia 3720 classic situation is good because the keys are large, distinct, they have not done a single block, their easy to use. Metallic navigation key, it is inscribed indicator, which flashes at short intervals. The keys are lit in white, rather bright and uniform.

Screen

Screen Nokia 3720 classic quality does not differ from the majority decisions of the company, he implemented the technology TFT, has a size of 2.2 inches. That is exactly the same as in the 6303 classic, 6700 classic, and others. The physical dimensions of 32 x 46 mm, a display capable of displaying up to 16 million colors and shades. The maximum brightness level just below, there is no possibility of its adjustment, is done automatically only ambient light detector. As a result, the screen seems a bit dull, but in reality it is not critical.

Behavior of the screen in the sun - are traditionally excellent for all products of the company, the information is fully visible.

Communications

Jack for a headset, a cable connector is a microUSB, located at the lower end of the device. MicroUSB cable is present in the kit. For data transfer speed of large differences with the current devices is about 900 kbps. Standard USB - 2.0, there is also support for the regime Mass Storage, you can choose what quality to use the device - a disk drive, PC Suite, a dial-up connection. Connecting as a disk drive unit does not come off-line profile that belongs to the pluses of the model. When a cable is charging the phone does not happen.

Supporting Bluetooth-A2DP profile allows you to use with the apparatus of a wireless stereo headset, is no problem, everything is quite ordinary. Bluetooth profiles are:
  • A2DP
  • Dial Up Networking Profile
  • File Transfer Profile
  • Generic Access Profile
  • Service Discovery Application Profile
  • Headset Profile
  • Handsfree (Car Kit) Profile
  • Generic Object Exchange Profile (OBEX)
  • Object Push Profile
  • File Transfer Profile
  • Basic Printing Profile
  • Audio Video Remote Control Profile
  • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
  • Enhanced Data Rate
  • Dual Profile Bluetooth (Voice & Data)
  • vNote

Battery

In the model used Li-Ion Battery BL-5CT standard capacity of 1050 mAh, exactly the same as in 6303. The Nokia 6300, as well as in the 6700 classic battery smaller in size, 860 mAh. With an average level of stress (about one hour of calls, up to two hours of listening to MP3 and radio, an hour's work with other functions and menus) phone can hold about three days, it is a standard result in the present time, sufficient for most users. Predecessors work less, especially noticeable when listening to MP3, where Nokia 3720 classic is entirely analogous to 6303 in terms of software, like all the new models the company is based on the sixth edition of the Series 40 platform, which was significantly different from the fifth edition. First improve the comfort, all the menus have horizontal drop-down lists, which reduces the number of clicks required to access a particular function. Lists appear in the navigation buttons to the right, it can be set up, additional fields in the phone book, much more. Previously, each such list was an extra level of nested menus, now select the options you want, you can simply press deviation.

Add a lot of animation effects, popup windows, the interface looks nicer, more interesting, more modern. But in general it is only a revolution, the global processing of all no, but that is not required. Organization of the menu, standby remained at the same level of customization (your phone by itself) Nokia Series 40 devices - some of the best, and it is not clear what else you can add the new edition. Wishes of many multitasking Java-applications no, this principled policy of the company in respect of ordinary phones, for which blame Nokia 6303 or other devices should not be. But for most users, such political questions are not interesting, because phones from Sony Ericsson, Samsung are multitasking. Be that as it may, it is the only moment in which the Series 40 6th Edition inferior competitors, everything else sold at excellent level. Even the browser in the new edition of the platform came close to what is used on a S60 - is an open source development.the time goes up to 18-20 hours. Full charging time is approximately one and a half hours.

Mobile users can switch operators from December this year

Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which allows subscribers to retain their mobile telephone number while discarding one service provider for another, will be implemented in 'category A' circles (which cover major towns and cities) from December this year and the rest of the country from March 20, 2010.

Consumers, however, will be allowed to switch operators only 90 days after a connection is activated and can change operators within the circle in which they are registered, according to a final notification issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today.

The notification, which has been issued after almost a year of delay, stipulates a maximum of four days within which the switch from one operator to another should be completed.

In Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and north eastern circles, however, operators have been allowed 12 days to make the switch.

Subscribers will have to pay recipient operators non-refundable porting charges, which are yet to be decided.

The regulator has also mandated that a subscriber making a porting request should clear all bills issued first.

The MNP regime is expected to put additional pressure on telecom operators. At present, churn in the industry stands at around 4.5 per cent per month in the country, which roughly means that more than half India's over 400 million subscribers change operators in a year.

Intel introduced the New Intel Core i7 Mobile Processor at IDF

Intel introduced its Intel Core i7 Mobile Processor and Intel Core i7 Mobile Processor Extreme Edition on Wednesday, bringing Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture to the mobile market.

These processors in addition to the new Intel PM55 Express Chipset, have been designed to provide the best laptop experience for intense gaming, digital media, photos, music, business applications and other multi-threaded software that hungers for faster processing speed. The chips also boost overall performance when using several of these applications simultaneously.

"With intelligent features like Intel Turbo Boost Technology, Intel Hyper-Threading Technology and a host of others, Intel has revolutionized the laptop PC processor, delivering performance when you need it, energy efficiency when you don't," said Dadi Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager, Intel Architecture Group. "For the first time, mobile users can choose a laptop that delivers Internet-server like speed, right in their laps for the most demanding tasks, from intense gaming to digital video editing and social media applications."

Formerly codenamed "Clarksfield," Intel Core i7 mobile processors offer Intel Turbo Boost Technology, which can accelerate the processor clock speed up
to 75 percent to match workloads, as well as better performance on highly threaded applications with the power of Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. The new Intel Core i7 mobile processors also include two-channel DDR3 1333 MHz memory support and full 1 x16 or 2 x8 PCI Express 2.0 graphics.

Laptops with Intel Core i7 mobile processor Extreme Edition support Intel Extreme Memory Profiles (Intel XMP) and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, making it possible to overclock3 and fine tune your laptop for incredible performance and battery life optimizations. In addition, the Intel PM55 Express Chipset enables high-end workstation and gaming laptops to support features such as Intel Matrix Storage Technology, Intel High-Definition Audio, and increased I/O interfaces.

OEMs including Asus, Dell, HP and Toshiba began shipping laptops today based on Intel Core i7 mobile processors, with additional systems from OEMs available in the coming months. 1ku pricing for the Intel Core i7-920XM (2GHz - 3.2GHz with Turbo Boost, 8MB cache, 55W TDP) Intel Core i7-820QM (1.73GHz, 8MB cache, 45W TDP) and Intel Core i7-720QM (1.6GHz, 6MB cache, 45W TDP)mobile processors is $1,054, $546 and $364, respectively.

Intel Core i7 processors for laptops

David (Dadi) Perlmutter also marked the debut of three new super-fast and intelligent Intel Core i7 processors for laptops.

Based on Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture, the new Intel Core i7 processors and a new chipset include such features as Intel Turbo Boost Technology and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.

Perlmutter also highlighted Intel's next generation of mobile processors, codenamed "Arrandale," which brings the Nehalem microarchitecture to mainstream laptops. These chips will integrate the dual-core CPU and graphics in the package and incorporate the 32nm manufacturing process and second-generation high-k metal gate transistors for increased performance and power efficiency for mainstream mobile PCs. This integration of platform components will continue into the future with a fully monolithic processor on 32nm, codenamed "Sandy Bridge."

Citing a combination of architectural, design and process enhancements, Perlmutter detailed progress with Intel's "Moorestown" platform, scheduled for 2010 and targeting MIDs and smartphones. He discussed some of the innovative techniques that Intel is implementing, such as Distributed Power Gating, for improved performance and major reductions in power and thermal envelope.

These technologies help to achieve up to a 50x improvement in platform idle power reduction compared to Intel's first generation "Menlow" platform. The reductions are enabling Intel to establish new thresholds in ultra low power while making it possible to run the full Internet and media-rich applications in handheld devices.

Perlmutter also touched on Intel's third generation ultra-low power platform, codenamed "Medfield." Expected in 2011, Medfield will be a single-chip 32nm system-on-chip (SoC) design that will enable a much smaller form factor and lower power designs than Moorestown, helping extend Intel squarely into smartphone segments.

Perlmutter demonstrated a new high-speed optical cable technology ready by next year to connect mainstream electronic devices such as laptops, HD displays, cameras, video players, iPods, docking stations and solid-state drives (SSDs) to each other using optical fiber rather than copper wires, paving the way for a new generation of extreme input and output (I/O) performance. Developed by Intel and codenamed "Light Peak," this proposed technology will spawn a new generation of extreme computer I/O performance, delivering 10Gb/s of bandwidth, with the potential ability to scale to 100Gb/s over the next decade. At 10Gb/s, a user could transfer a full-length Blu-ray movie in less than 30 seconds. The company intends to work with the industry to determine the best way to make this new technology a broadly available standard.

In addition, Perlmutter announced Intel Anti-Theft Technology (Intel AT) version 2.03, an intelligent technology in PC hardware that disables laptop PC and access to encrypted data if it's lost or stolen. Collaborating with key security
ISVs, Intel AT will enable enhanced data protection, PC theft deterrence for consumers as well as a broad number of consumer and business laptops from leading PC OEMs in 2010.

Samsung Develops 1GHz Low-power Application Processors

Samsung today introduced two new 1GHz ARM CORTEX-A8 based application processors, the S5PC110 and S5PV210, for advanced mobile devices at the sixth annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held at the Westin Taipei Hotel.

The S5PC110 is targeted for small form-factor connected devices such as multimedia intensive smartphones, while the S5PV210 is aimed at portable computing devices such as netbooks that demand high performance and design flexibility.

"PC-level performance with lower power consumption will become mainstream requirements for advanced mobile devices. Samsung developed S5PC110 and S5PV210 application processors to satisfy these conflicting requirements to enable a new level of user experience not previously possible," said Dr. Kwang Hyun Kim, senior vice president, strategic marketing team, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics.

Both the S5PC110 and S5PV210 ensure longer battery life for mobile devices running on standard size batteries through a variety of low power technologies, including the use of a 45-nanometer (nm) Low Power fabrication process and intricate low power architectures. Each of these application processors comes with 32KB data and 32KB instruction caches, and is equipped with a 512KB L2 cache. With the 1GHz clock speed and large size L2 cache, these processors enable real-time applications such as web browsing and user interface (UI) to run smoothly with a fast response time.

High speed 3D graphics rendering and high resolution video support are two key differentiating features for advanced mobile devices. Both the S5PC110 and S5PV210 are equipped with a powerful built-in 3D graphics engine to support sophisticated 3D UI and high-caliber games. In addition, the two processors integrate a 1080p full HD codec engine that supports 30fps full HD video playback and recording. A built-in HDMI1.3 interface allows output of captured or downloaded mobile multimedia contents to an external high definition digital display.

These two new application processors also feature a wide variety of interfaces and peripherals to maximize design flexibility and reduce system BOM cost of targeted mobile devices. In particular, a high speed USB 2.0 host interface is integrated for hosting various USB peripheral devices.

Targeted for small form factor mobile devices, the S5PC110 is housed in a 0.5mm pitch, 14X14mm2 FBGA package that allows package-on-package vertical stacking of low power, multiple chip package (MCP) memory such as OneDRAM, mobile DDR and LP DDR2, greatly reducing the overall foot print of the memory and processor combo.

Designed for portable computing applications, the S5PV210 is packaged in a 0.65mm pitch, 17X17mm2 FBGA package with a high performance 2-channel 32-bit DDR2 memory interface that is essential for computing devices.

Samples of both products will be available in December, 2009, the company said.
