After YouTube, Vimeo happening in HTML 5

A few hours after Google announced its plans to expand the testing phase around the HTML 5 and the video site Vimeo says on his official blog with implementing this technology on most of its portal.

On the top of any compatible video site it will suffice to click on the link at the bottom right titled "Switch to HTML5 player" to get the new drive. This new option has the advantage of starting instantly regardless of the location of the playhead and then without waiting for traditional caching.

However HTML5 is not yet supported by all browsers. "This will only work for about one quarter of you," said developer Brad Dougherty, adding: "you should use the latest versions of Safari, Chrome or Internet Explorer with the plugin installed Chrome Frame. Note that if Firefox takes good care the video H.264 format used by Vimeo is not compatible however, a problem also found on YouTube. Also the full screen mode is not available due to "a limitation of browsers. Finally, it is still not possible to export the clip in this format.

Vimeo says that about 90% of videos uploaded last year will work with this new drive. In all about 35% of videos on Vimeo still require Flash Player.

Kindle: Amazon will launch its own "App Store"

Amazon wants to transform its shelves of reading books, magazines and newspapers into veritable multimedia shelves.

To compete with e-book readers hybrids Plastic Logic (proReader AS), Spring Design (Alex) or Asus (DR-570), the giant U.S. online bookstores has indeed modernize its Kindle. For if they had a head start on the "lights" Sony, Bookeen or iRex thanks to the integration of a web browser and a 3G chip, new models of reading devices will much more sophisticated.

Meanwhile the output of the first models with color screens, some of them will indeed reach its emails or its online calendar. And rather than imposing new practices, Amazon put the developers through the release of an SDK for developing third-party programs are compatible with the Kindle (6-inch screen) and Kindle DX (9.7 inches) .

A kiosk software download will be implemented in the coming months and available directly from the "Kindle Store". Publishers like Handmark (Zagat, puzzle games) or EA Mobile have so far already announced their support for the next offer.

Note that at the same time, Amazon has recently offered to publishers and authors worldwide to publish their books in English, German and French on the "Kindle Store". And to encourage them to focus on Amazon's proprietary platform, a new mode of their remuneration is being proposed.

As of June 30, authors will retain 70% of revenues from the sale of a digital book for a Kindle if they meet certain criteria. Because of his work to offer a price between 2.99 and 9.99 dollars, to sell at least 20% cheaper than its paper equivalent, or to authorize the activation of the function of speech (Texto to speech ).

PhysX and multi-core: AMD accuses NVIDIA denies

NVIDIA has it changed the management technology of physics effects PhysX so that it draws only partly advantage of multi-core processors in order to enhance the attractiveness of its own graphics cards? It is assumed that defends Richard Huddy, in charge of developer relations at AMD. In an interview granted to Bit-Tech, he in effect accuses the manufacturer of GeForce of deliberately undermined support for physics calculations by processors with more than two cores, which he said was much better when technology was still PhysX developed by Ageia, its intiateur, acquired by NVIDIA in early 2008. Explicitly challenged by its competitor, NVIDIA denies these allegations.

"When they bought Ageia, they had a very correct implementation of the Multi-in PhysX. If you look now, you'll see it uses essentially a heart, or at best two. That damn petty, "says Richard Huddy. "It's much the same thing that the old trick overstaffed with Intel's compiler [supposed disadvantage competing processors, editor's note]; NVIDIA has just removed all the optimizations for multicore PhysX, says he yet. In doing so, NVIDIA enhance the salability of its graphics cards, which do not evoke the same interest if all tests showed that a processor does as well or better management of physical effects.

The development kit associated with PhysX is designed so that the management process is determined by the application developer, not by the functions of the SDK itself, refutes Nadeem Mohammad, product manager at NVIDIA, on the One of the blogs from the manufacturer. "One of the best examples is 3DMarkVantage, which can use 12 processes when running in software rendering PhysX. Anyone who has a multicore processor and a GeForce PhysX compatible can easily verify. The level of support for multicore and method of programming has not changed since day one, "says he again.
