Rumors Next-gen Apple Macbooks include new design, glass trackpad

Part of the reason why the iPhone is so popular is because it has a fantastic glass touchscreen. In this way, it wouldn't take much for Apple to plunk that technology into the next-generation MacBook. That's the rumor swirling around on the Internet at the moment, but without any sort of substantial source, it's really hard to confirm.

What they're saying is that the trackpads on the upcoming redesigned MacBooks will be made of glass, feature multi-touch, and come with full support for gesture inputs. This kind of tech, aside from the glass thing, is already in play with devices like the MacBook Air. They also say that the exterior will be sculpted from a single sheet of aluminum.

Rounding out the rumor sheet are processor revisions based on Intel Centrino 2 and 16:9 aspect screens. This means that the Macs will be offered in 14" and 15.6" variants, rather than the 13.3" and 15.4" that you've got now. Look for a formal announcement in September. Maybe.

Dell Studio Hybrid Mini PC

Dell has unveiled its Mac Mini rival, the Studio Hybrid desktop.

Dell is attempting to sell the Studio Hybrid on its eco-credentials. The company claims its small form factor desktop consumes 70% less power than a standard tower desktop, and that 95% of its packaging is recyclable.

The unit also comes with a system recycling kit which aims to make it easier to dispose of when users decided to upgrade.

Styling was also clearly on the minds of Dell's designers who claim the Studio Hybrid is 80% smaller than a standard tower desktop, and designed to be either stood vertically or lay down with users able to switch between six jewel-toned or bamboo covers.

To add to the "Green" appeal of the Studio Hybrid, packaging and printed documentation was greatly reduced and is 95% recyclable. A system recycling kit is also included. The Dell Studio Hybrid PCs start at $499. The Dell site is not listing the Studio Hybrid for configuration yet - maybe later today the purchase option for the new Dell goes live

Quite whether there's enough inside the Studio Hybrid to make it an attractive living-room proposition, however, really will depend on the user. Alongside a mobile Penryn T8100 processor, the Hybrid features a slot-loading DVD burner, optional Blu-ray drive, HDMI port, 250GB or 320GB hard drive, Firewire port, digital audio-out port, an 8-in-1 media card reader, 2GB RAM, and Intel Mobile 965 integrated graphics.

Nokia ties up with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) to Save the Tiger

Mobile handset maker Nokia today joined hands with World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-India, to support the latter's tiger conservation initiatives in the country.

Finnish-based mobile telephone giant Nokia has joined hands with the wildlife conservation organization, World Wide Fund for Nature, (WWF) to help conserve tigers in India.

Mr. D. Shivakumar, Vice President and Managing Director, Nokia India, said, "The tiger population in India has seen an alarming decrease due to shrinking forest cover, and increased poaching. We have joined hands to spread awareness about this important cause."

Moreover, the combined scheme would also discover alternative livelihood programmes for villagers residing around National Parks, particularly the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, which is well-known for its tigers.

Nokia would work with WWF with the intention to fortify sustainable and alternative livelihood programmes, to connect them with subsisting initiatives of other line departments of the Government of Rajasthan.

As part of this relationship, Nokia will work with WWF in the following areas around Ranthambore:
  • To strengthen the existing community institutions and development of further institutions of the community to facilitate community empowerment
  • To provide education for sustainable development and communication outreach to the school teachers and students, villagers-including men and women, civil society communities around the Park and the forest personnel.
  • To strengthen sustainable and alternative livelihood programmes, to link them with existing schemes of other line departments of the Government of Rajasthan.
