The months that followed its publication, the Opera browser Opera Turbo 10 was used by 3 million users to view some 688 million pages when compressed.
With Release 1 September 10 Opera, the Norwegian publisher Opera Software has played the card of innovation with a rather exciting service called Opera Tubo. With Opera Turbo, a proxy server is asked to perform a compression of Web pages that can go up to 80%. This service can be activated or not according to the wish of the user, and it should be noted that in exchanges with a secure site, the server's response does not occur.
Opera Turbo is for users connected to the Internet in mobility situations or do not have much bandwidth. This service is completely free and only return to a faster browsing finally a slight deterioration in rendering certain images, which can still cover their most attractive aspect via the context menu. Similarly some content like Flash videos do not load after clicking. Otherwise, the presentation of the original site is preserved.
According to Opera Software, a month after the release of Opera 10.0, almost 3 million users have used Opera Turbo to inspect approximately 668 million web pages and compressed. The editor sees the sign of a real response to a need and the savings in bandwidth that can become really palpable in cases of pre-paid connections.

Philips Sets Flat-Panel TVs Free with U.S. Launch of Wireless HDTV Link
Philips confirmed U.S. retail availability for its Wireless HDTV Link (SWW1800/27) that uses new technology to wirelessly deliver high-definition TV picture quality (up to 1080p) without ruining the aesthetics of the home.
Unsightly wires are a digital burden of the past with the Philips Wireless HDTV Link which replaces the cables that connect the HD cable set-top box, HD satellite receiver, Blu-ray player and gaming console to a HDTV.
Philips Wireless HDTV Link is currently available for purchase at amazon.com and dell.com with a manufacturer?s suggested retail price of $799. It will be sold at Sam's Club, samsclub.com and Costco.com beginning November 2009. The company will expand the product's national brick and mortar retail availability in late fourth quarter 2009 and early 2010.
"Wireless HDTV Link is technology that consumers are demanding - and Philips' wireless product provides solid HD performance and improves aesthetics of the home without the cost or hassle of a custom installation," said Nico Riggio, Vice President, P&A/AVM, Philips Consumer Lifestyle.
With Philips Wireless HDTV Link, you can relocate your HD devices (set-top box and other AV components) up to 75 feet away from the TV without signal loss or degradation.
The Wireless HDTV Link allows you to connect four AV devices to your TV, two digital HDMI connections and two component connections. Users have the freedom to switch
between these devices simply and quickly, without having to change cables and plugs in between uses.
Philips Wireless HDTV Link is one of the first digital wireless technologies that transmits up to a 1080p HD signal and negates the need for cables, combining form and function. The receiver is specially designed to fit behind standard TV wall mounts so that it is out of sight and won?t ruin the aesthetics of the room.

DNA: the infinite potential of databases
A section of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), dated Wednesday, October 21, 2009, discusses the launch of a new collection of genetic data in California. A plan to better understand the genetic and environmental causes of disease. The article seems to corroborate some of the fears of American lawyer Daniel Solove, whose words were echoed by the French magazine InternetActu.net the same day, evoking the dangers arising from crossing data on the long term.
100,000 Californians over age 65 should participate in this program, undertaken by the University of California (San Francisco) and the National Intsitutes of Health and funded to the tune of 25 million dollars from the federal government. Some participants are clients of health insurance as Kaiser Permanente (Oakland). The MIT article cites other similar projects including the UK Biobank, which currently collects 500,000 genomes or the Mayo Clinic who collected 20,000.
These data, searchable by other scientists, can be crossed with information such as places to live, work, quality of air and water and ... lifestyle of patients. This attempt to establish what roles do genes and environment in causing disease.
Imagine then drifts that could lead to manipulation of such databases. The risk, as noted by the article InternetActu, comes not so much the collection of data that use it is made. "Often, the answer to concerns about the privacy of our data is that 'those who do not violate the law did nothing wrong,'" says the magazine that speaks the words of Daniel Solove, a law professor at School of Law George Washington University and author. We would thus nothing to fear from the massive collection of data. Yet, according to Daniel Solove, this argument would weigh two entities: the strong and the weak, the citizen and the executive, the beginning and the consumer, the patient and her health insurance. The article is based not on George Orwell's 1984, but Kafka's The Trial. "The problem lies not in the same monitoring data, but the powerlessness and vulnerability created by using data that excludes the person of knowledge or participation in the processes that concern," wrote Daniel Solove.
What do our data, especially if they are reused for a different purpose than that for which they were collected? "How can we be sure of having done nothing wrong? And if the rules changed? "Asks Hubert Guillaud of InternetActu.

Google signs with Twitter, Bing with Twitter and Facebook
The rumor that ran for some time about integrating Twitter in Bing and Google confirms. The two giants have indeed signed an agreement to implement directly in the search engine service based micro-blogging. Yusuf Mehdi, vice president of Internet at Microsoft said that the company signed a similar agreement with the EU network Facebook.
This initiative should help spur competition in the search market. The tweets, those famous messages limited to 140 characters on Twitter published, expected to get search results in real time, such a request in connection with a news event. Qi Lu, vice-chairman of the online services Microsoft declined to detail the various aspects of the contract but also confirms that this is a non-exclusive agreement. This summer, in partnership with Federated Media, the team had unofficially Bing experimented by creating bingtweets.com. On the official blog of the company, Marissa Meyer, vice chairman of the department of research at Google, said: "This way, the next time you search something that can be enriched by an observation in real time, as the quality of the snow on your favorite ski resort, you can find tweets published by other users who are present and share the latest news. "
Yahoo! has already implemented the results of Yahoo! Answers to boost its search engine. One imagines that if regulators trade give green light to the ten-year partnership signed between Carol Bartz and Steve Ballmer, the Yahoo! should also take advantage of this implementation since Bing become the search engine by default. Remember that other rumors also speculated on a possible partnership between Bing and Wolfram Alpha to integrate within the engine technology of semantic search further. Wolfram Alpha has also recently announced the opening of its API.
