Intel wants to bring Android 2.2 "Froyo" on x86

Intel will deliver in the summer of developers with a native x86 version of Android 2.2 (codename Froyo), latest version of mobile operating system from Google, allowing installation on a laptop. Originally designed for mobile processors (ARM), Android 2.2 will work well on the Atom chip foundry, present in most netbooks market.

"We expect (this port Android to x86) and is based on Froyo available to developers later this summer," said Renee James to APCMag, vice president of software and services from Intel.

While working with Nokia to develop Meego, an alternative to the software from Google, Intel confirms an ambition so evident during Computex in June: positioning its Atom processors - including the future architecture Moorestown - on all mobile devices market, from laptops to smartphones .
