The Norwegian publisher Opera Software today announced the availability of a first beta version of its browser in 10.60. The final version for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux is expected this summer.
At the heart of development is still optimizing the loading of web pages that is put forward. Opera is always described as the fastest browser on the market and is twice as swift as the previous update. The developers have also added programming interfaces to geo-location set up by the W3C. This example should allow users to obtain more relevant results through search engines.
Still on HTML5, this beta loads the container Webm presented by Google in May and brings together the VP8 video codec is now distributed in open source and for Vorbis audio. 10.60 Opera beta also offers the possibility to use certain Internet services offline. This feature is made possible through AppCache and Web Workers, two other features of the W3C.
The Speed Dial, the Welcome screen is now customizable and the user can choose to display thumbnails of 4-25 shortcuts and a special background image. For its part the search suggestions embellished by offering search results from partner sites such as Wikipedia.
