Adobe releases AIR SDK for Android

After unveiling Flash 10.1 on version 2.2 of the Android system, now here is a development kit for Adobe AIR. The Android Market would therefore gain new applications written in ActionScript and compiled to run natively on smartphones.

Originally intended to Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, Adobe AIR lets you write A pplications I nternet R iche. These are thus able to integrate programming interfaces of Internet services (Facebook, Twitter) while communicating with the components of the computer (webcam, file explorer ...). In this sense similar to Adobe AIR Silverlight.

The publication of the Android SDK should allow us to deploy applications specifically designed for Internet usage while taking advantage of the camera, GPS or the phone memory. For the developer, it also simplifies porting an existing Adobe AIR since it will suffice to recompile to create a file APK. Finally, if Adobe did not manage to get Adobe AIR iPhone, the presence of this environment on many mobile systems will also facilitate the deployment of an application on different eco-system, the latter shall be written only once . Finally, the homogeneity will also facilitate publications updates.
