3M Unveils a monitor in self-powered USB 3.0

The U.S. manufacturer 3M has unveiled a prototype self-powered LED screen via two USB 3.0.

On a diagonal of 18.5 inches, this screen displays a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels, has a brightness of 250 cd / m² and a contrast of 1000: 1, and therefore requires no electrical outlet, or VGA cable to run.

The advantage of this prototype is also economical, since it consumes only 8W, which is about half of a standard monitor. An asset that is also a drawback, however level connection, since USB 3.0 is not capable of providing a maximum power of 7W, it must connect to two ports to enable it to function.

Still, this model, which is less dependent on electricity and requires fewer cables, bodes good for USB 3.0. I bet that by the time the new version of the Universal Serial Bus is democratized, the manufacturer has further improved its prototype.
