Advertising on Yahoo! : Targeting and transparency

Last month, Google released a service called Google Dashboard to view a glance the latest activity on the various products offered by the company. For Google, Dashboard is a degree of transparency vis-à-vis the user, even if ultimately all this information is already known. For its part, Yahoo! wishes to propose an analysis a little further called Ad Manager.

The Internet portal and launches a site in which are listed all the activities of the user on the network (consultation mails, surfing on Flickr, reading news ...). Yahoo! uses these data and, through an algorithm, is able to return targeted ads more user interests. Ad Manager also allows to read other types of data recorded by Yahoo!, Including IP address, location of connection, the screen resolution, gender and age of the Internet based information user account.

Advertisements portal Yahoo! are classified in different categories and sub-categories (sports, entertainment, health, technology ...). The user is able to control what types of advertising he wants to receive by checking or unchecking some groups. One can also choose to enable or disable this analysis algorithm based on its history of surfing on the portal. Ad Manager is currently available for accounts Yahoo! American and should be deployed in Europe in the coming weeks.
