Philips stops production of 21:9 televisions due to lack of success

Lack of demand from consumers, Philips has decided to stop production of television format 21: 9. The manufacturer was launched on selective market in 2009.

Philips has confirmed the news site FlatpanelsHD , who questioned the possible presence of new brand at IFA, where she had hitherto used to present its new TV models 21: 9.  The company said it had already finalized the production of this type of screen, and the models still sold commercially are the last in stock: a story that only needed to be formalized since the firm was not announced for a while on this sector.





The manufacturer had relied in 2009 on the ideal format for viewing films in cinemascope, without black bars.  In 2010, Philips introduced the range Cinema 21:9 Platinum and its sequel, Cinema 21:9 Gold in 2011. TVs with premium price of around 4000 euros.  High prices to the general public for a screen size moviegoers who mostly Philips did not meet the expected success.

But if the company stops costs with 21: 9 TV side, it will still an LCD monitor in the same format at IFA.  With a size of 29 inches, the screen is capable of displaying a ultra-high resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels.  Its price has not been disclosed.
