Firefox 3.6 will use the accelerometer of phones

On the blog hack.mozilla.org, Christopher Blizzard, a staunch supporter of open source in Mozilla announced that the next version of Firefox browser will be able to communicate with the accelerometer embedded in some laptops to restore the orientation the page being read.

Mozilla is therefore provided a programming interface to JavaScript developers to make their websites compatible with this technology. "We've added support for Linux and Macs and some Thinkpads for which drivers are available," says Blizzard. Eventually, Mozilla could also embed the technology within its mobile browser Fennec. Yahoo! also working on a similar device with its environment BrowserPlus.

In addition to online games, however we could consider the use of this technology. To test the assumption of the accelerometer, it will install one of the latest builds of Firefox.
