Modu, inventor of the world’s lightest mobile phone, today unveiled the modu music jacket, co-branded with JBL, the leading brand of high-fidelity loudspeakers. This stylishly designed phone enclosure for the modu modular phone is equipped with two JBL Odyssey speakers for clear, dynamic sound and deep bass, and it simultaneously enables full phone functionality in one palm-sized device. The modu music jacket, available later this year, is the first branded jacket offered by modu.
This music jacket is designed and manufactured by PCH International, an integrated specialist firm serving the consumer electronics, personal computer, telecom and other industries worldwide.
At the heart of the modu ecosystem is a tiny, sleek mobile phone called modu™. In addition to complete mobile functionality, modu enables users to inexpensively and easily customize their mobile experience by inserting the modu phone into the modu jackets. The modu ecosystem offers boundless – and affordable – possibilities in both style and function.
“The modu music jacket is all about sharing one’s favorite tunes out loud,” said Dov Moran, founder and chief executive officer of modu. “JBL Odyssey® speakers deliver an outstanding audio experience for music lovers, and lets them easily switch over to private phone mode to make a call or send SMS messages. Additionally, the strategic partnership with PCH International in the design and production of the jacket is a great example of the modu ecosystem bringing together partners that create innovative consumer products.”
Through a combination of innovative design and JBL’s advanced speaker technology, the modu music jacket lets users enjoy phone-stored tunes with deep, distortion-free bass and clear, accurate sound. The result is a full and rich sound experience, from the lowest bass to the highest highs, all in one small device.
In addition to the speaker function, the modu jacket acts as a mobile phone and enables the user to place or receive private phone calls and send text messages. It also acts as power source for modu. Other features include:
- 2.2” display
- 3.5mm jack
- 3 Megapixel camera with flash
- Digital sound meter
- USB connector
Tim LeBeau, vice president of global brands for Harman Consumer Brands, said: “The modu music jacket combines the rich sound of a high-fidelity stereo with the full functionality of an advanced mobile phone to create a one-of-a-kind experience. This product targets people who want to be heard and make a scene.”
Liam Casey, chief executive officer of PCH International, said: “The partnership with modu enables us to use modu’s core technology and launch a unique branded jacket, with exceptional design and audio performance to the mobile consumers. This new product offers consumers choice and a lot of flexibility in relation to how they listen to and share their music. It’s like boombox in your pocket – sleek, portable and with amazing sound quality.”
