Apple iPhone smartphone market share is at 16.6 percent

Apple has just one mobile phone on sale in the market: iPhone. And this phone on its own has captured around 16.6 percent of the global smartphone market. With this, Apple is just behind Nokia in the world’s smartphone market.

Nokia itself is struggling in this segment of the market. Their market share has gone down from 63.3 percent of the market a year ago to 43.6 percent.

Analysts believe that this is largely due to enhanced availability of iPhone in the markets around the world.

It remains to be seen if the recently launched Blackberry models can do some magic and gain some market share for Research in Motion which dominates the US market.
