Adobe publishes the final version of AIR for Linux

Adobe today announced the availability of the final version of Adobe AIR 1.5 for Linux. The environment for rich Internet applications Adobe Integrated Runtime fate and a beta phase which began in September. Like the Native Client Google recently unveiled software that allows for recall to run certain Web applications outside and independent of a browser window in a dedicated, based on technologies Flash, Flex and its own renderers HTML and JavaScript (based on WebKit).

Compared to previous versions, this new version brings in particular the support of Flash technology 10 and therefore 3D effects, improved rendering of text in addition to support for digital locks (DRM), a boon for a Linux user! This feature is especially required to run Adobe Media Player, a multimedia player based on AIR.

The output of this new version also has the advantage to level the features available to different platforms in line versions Windows and Mac OS X. Simply by Flash 9, previous versions of the Linux environment prevented some applications yet functional Windows and Mac OS X operating. So many applications were deliberately truncated to operate on the three platforms.

Adobe AIR 1.5 is distributed by Adobe as binary distributions for Ubuntu 7.10 and later, Fedora 8.1 and later and Open SUSE 10.3 and later. The download is from the official site for downloading its editor. Next target for Adobe, the port AIR technology on mobile devices, including iPhone?

Broadcom to provide DTH solution to Bharti Airtel

US-based Broadcom Corporation has partnered Bharti Airtel to provide integrated set-top box (STB) solutions for its direct-to-home (DTH) service. The solution will allow Bharti Airtel to offer additional services, channels, and on-demand and interactive content within the same transponder allocation.

Broadcom's Broadband Communications Group SVP and GM Dan Marotta said, "We are excited to support highly integrated satellite STB solutions that provide advanced services and reduce the overall STB cost for Indian operators."

"We are pleased to be working with Broadcom to deliver digital satellite services to India's TV market," said Bharti Telemedia executive director N Arjun.

Microsoft Issuing Emergency Fix For IE7

Microsoft is taking the unusual step of issuing an emergency fix for a security hole in its Internet Explorer software that has exposed millions of users to having their computers taken over by hackers.

The "zero-day" vulnerability, which came to light last week, allows criminals to take over victims' machines simply by steering them to infected Web sites; users don't have to download anything for their computers to get infected, which makes the flaw in Internet Explorer's programming code so dangerous.

Microsoft said it plans to ship a security update, rated "critical," for the browser on Wednesday. People with the Windows Update feature activated on their computers will get the patch automatically.

Tata sky crosses 3 million Subscribers

The DTH juggernaut continues. Tata Sky has pocketed three million subscribers, quickly adding the last one million over just seven months.

The three-million landmark was reached within 27 months, indicating how rapidly the Indian direct-to-home market is growing.

Dish TV the market leader, has 4.5 million subscribers while Big TV claims to have touched one million within 90 days of launch. Sun Direct has roped in two million customers, 99 per cent of which are from the four southern states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kannada.

Launching its DTH satellite pay-TV service in August 2006, Tata Sky reached one million connections by the end of the first year of operations.
