Nokia N96 iPhone Killer Hits India

Nokia’s much awaited, fully loaded, dual slider, the N96, has been launched in India almost a month and a half before the UK launch that was set to be the first. Bravo - is what I have to say. This cross between the N81 with its glossy trims and the N95’s dual slide component makes for a great handset overall.

The N96 has a 2.8-inch TFT display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and 16 million colors. It runs on a Dual ARM 9 264 MHz CPU and comes with 128MB RAM, 256MB storage memory and a whopping 16GB of internal memory as well as microSD card support in case you feel that 16GB is just not enough. The handset also has an accelerometer for automatically rotating the display.

Net connectivity the N96 is equipped with Wi-Fi, 3G support with HSDPA speeds, EDGE class 32, GPRS/WAP, Bluetooth with A2DP and microUSB v2.0 for data transfer. When it comes to multimedia the N96 should feel like a pro with a 5 MP auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It’s also capable of video capture (VGA 30fps) and it comes with an LED flash which in my opinion is not a good thing since the N82 has a Xenon, but ok. Just around the camera’s lens is a kickstand that when opened allows the handset to be propped up for comfort of viewing. The N96 also has a secondary VGA videocall camera in front.

Speaking of pre-loaded features, Nokia has been gracious enough to the Indian audience by providing plenty of Bollywood freebies. The N96 will come preloaded with the movie ‘Om Shanti Om’, 50 music videos, music tracks in Hindi and English and 3 N-Gage games with an unlimited license on for the 3rd edition of Asphalt Urban. It will also have 3 country Nokia Maps that include Singapore, UAE and of course India and a 3 month Navigation license for 8 Indian cities.

Apple and Nokia have not yet announced the prices of their models, but according to industry sources, both phones having 3G enabled features, which allow high quality net surfing, video and music download etc, would be priced in the same range.

Though the phone would be available from September, consumers can pre-book the phone from across 2,000 Nokia outlets across the country from Wednesday.

Yahoo Buzz Opens Doors To Everyone

Yahoo’s Digg-like effort to leverage reader gestures and third party content in determining the most popular news, removes it’s barriers to entry tonight.

Until now only a hundred or so invited publishers could post news to Buzz. This was a big plug - Yahoo pushes a few Yahoo Buzz stories to their home page every day, resulting in huge, server-melting traffic surges to the lucky third party sites. Starting tonight, the invitation requirement is gone, and anyone can submit their stories to Buzz.

It’s hard to compare Buzz to Digg. Like AOL’s Propeller, they chose to add editorial discretion in determining headlines to reduce gaming. That also seems to make users less interested in participating, though. In Yahoo’s case the fact that they promote headline stories on the home page of Yahoo gives them a huge traffic boost, which skews results.

Stories can be submitted here once it goes live in a few hours.

Google tops among search sites for customer satisfaction

University of Michigan's annual American Customer Satisfaction Index for the e-business sector to the list of surveys that show Google is doing really, really well.

The ACSI, set to be released early Tuesday, puts Google at the top of the heap for customer satisfaction in the big search and portals category. Google's score of 87 out of 100 (based on interviews with 3,000 customers) is one of the highest scores ever recorded by the ACSI.

For the e-business sector as a whole (including search and portals and a second category for news and information sites), the survey paints an improving picture: customer satisfaction improved 5.5 percent from 2007 to 79.3 this year on the ACSI's 100-point scale. That's a 25.9 percent jump since e-businesses were added to the survey in 2000.
