The S41 is a mini-v which can handle full versions of Microsoft software applications such as Office. A mini-v is a new category of mobile device that is in between a large tablet PC and a small PDA. Since it can function as both a tablet PC as well as a laptop it is considered to be a mini version of both; hence the term mini-v. The S41 in tablet mode is a decent gaming device, having buttons on the side of its screen for that as well as a d-pad and mouse pointer on the left, and on the right there is left and right click and the scroll up ad down hardware keys which can be bound to an action.

Sharp Solar Powered environment-friendly LCD TV

Sharp is harnessing the power of the sun to create an energy-efficient and environment-friendly LCD TV. In the forthcoming G8 Summit, the Japanese TV manufacturer will show off a prototype of its 26-inch LCD TV using solar panel as its main source of energy.

Sharp claims this new technology reduces annual energy consumption by about 75% compared to the existing 26-inch LCD TVs available in the market today. Moreover, the new triple-junction thin-film solar module technology is free of toxic materials. Not to mention that using solar panel
reduces fossil fuel consumption.

Another innovation showcased by Sharp was a 26 inch solar panel which generates enough electricity to power the LCD TV. According to Sharp it is a perfect combo for the 1.6 billion people living below the poverty line in non-electrified areas and earning less than $2 a day.

It has a 10000:1 contrast ratio and consumes 30% less power than its low-power rivals, enabling it to be powered solely by an accompanying 26-inch solar panel.

While the company’s main objective is to provide TV to approximately 6 billion people on earth with scarce or no electricity, this prototype is also relevant to all of us in the face of mounting increase in gas prices and our fondness for supporting “green” products.

Samsung SCH-W510 Corn Phone

Samsung SCH-W510 Corn Phone

Samsung SCH-W510, the first mobile phone from the second largest handset manufacturer to be made out of bio-plastic materials, was recently presented in South Korea.

The plastic used in Samsung W510 is obtained from corn, literally. Moreover, the phone doesn't include hazardous metals like Lead, Cadmium or Mercury. These are the reasons why the Korea Eco-Products Institute has awarded the handset a "green label", making it the first Korean handset to get this award.

Eco-friendly products are generally deficient in terms of functionality, but that's not the case with Samsung W510. What we have here is a nice-looking slider that comes with the following features: a 3 Megapixel camera with flash and video recording, a QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) display, mobile TV capabilities, CDMA and HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, secondary camera for video calls, Music and Video players and Bluetooth. The rest of the features (like internal memory or battery lifetime) are not known yet, but it's clear that the new Samsung is a mid-end one that can rival with any other non eco-friendly phone from this category.
