As repeatedly announced starting April, Sprint has released today, June 20, its Samsung Instinct touchscreen handset, presented from the beginning not only as an iPhone competitor but also as a device that can easily outperform Apple's handset. Well, the Instinct is now available for purchase, priced at $129.99, so that everyone can try its capabilities. Of course, not "everyone" in the full meaning of the word, but only those who don't mind getting an unlimited data plan (at $69.99 per month) after signing a contract agreement for two years.

Sprint wants to be a generous carrier and, in the initial $129 price for Samsung Instinct, it also offers a 2GB memory card, a set of 3.5mm headphones (with microphone), a carrying case and a stylus. The Instinct can be bought online, from Sprint's official website, or in all of the carrier's US stores.

Due to business decisions Apple and the US carriers have made, most Americans are still not faced with the choice to buy an iPhone or not. They have to pick the best "feature phone" that their carrier has to offer. That is, a phone that costs somewhere between $50 and $250, built first and foremost to make voice calls, then serve additional social purposes—messaging, photos, etc.—and, finally, offer data connectivity to the web but more importantly to e-mail.

In a piece of news that can easily fall into the "how to waste a lot of money" category, we now present you the latest luxury edition of Nokia 8800 Arte, dubbed "Nokia 8800 Arte Pink", which comes after less than two weeks since another luxurious Nokia 8800 was unveiled.

Created by Peter Aloisson, the famous Austrian jeweler, the new Nokia 8800 Arte Pink is dressed in 18k white gold, plus more than 680 white and pink diamonds of the "best quality". These "tiny" details set the price of the phone no higher than 85,000 Euros – the equivalent of about $131,650.

If stripped of diamonds and gold, the new handset is actually not at all new, being the same 8800 Arte that was released by Nokia at the end of 2007. This means that the pink diamond-studded 8800 has the following features: a 2 inch scratch-resistant display with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels, a 3.15 Megapixel camera with auto focus and video, Music player, Web and email capabilities, 3G connectivity (only UMTS 2100), Bluetooth 2.0, handsfree, microUSB, T9 predictive text input, voice memo and 1GB of non-expandable memory.

Samsung Duos D780 in a Gold edition for Beijing Olympic

The Russian division of Samsung announced today the release of a Samsung Duos D780 in a Gold edition, which will be the official phone of Russia's Olympic team for the Beijing Olympic Games held in August. The handset will be commercialized as a limited edition, starting the 8th of August – the date when the 2008 Olympic Games debut.

Besides being plated with gold, the luxurious D780 also has the official logo of the Olympic Games engraved in its back case. These aspects aside, the golden D780 is the same device as the one Samsung released in Russia back in May.

The retail price of the Olympic Samsung D780 was not announced yet, but it will surely be higher than the one of the original handset, which is around 300 Euros ($465).
